    It is just a gradual thing during your pregnancy. You slowly evaluate the increase in size of your abdomen. Watch for fetal movements visible on the abdomen. READ MORE

  • How do you know if you conceived after ovulation?

    You have to wait for your menstrual cycle. If you miss having a menstrual cycle on the expected date, wait for at least 2 weeks, then do a pregnancy test. Sometimes you can have an early positive pregnancy test soon after missing menstrual cycle and then you may have a bleed and it will be negative. There is something called as a chemical pregnancy loss, which is very common and normal. People get very stressed out and think that they are having multiple miscarriages. Chemical pregnancy losses are very normal. Hence, we recommend doing a pregnancy test 2 weeks after missing a menstrual cycle. READ MORE

  • How long can you carry a baby after your water breaks?

    In today's day and age, it is recommended that if you break your bag of water, and do not have any signs or symptoms of labor, then to go to the hospital and get admitted and get the labor process started. Some patients to walk around for a few hours to see if labor starts, that is fine, too. More than 18 hours of ruptured bag of membranes is considered as prolonged rupture of membranes, if the baby still undelivered, then antibiotics need to be started. Ideally, a baby should deliver by 24 hours of rupture of bag of membranes, plus/minus a few hours, all depends on baby and mom's health status. Longer the bag of membranes ruptured, increased risk of infection to mother and baby. READ MORE

  • What are abnormal positions for delivery?

    Any baby who is either in the transverse position where the baby is lying in transverse position, perpendicular to the mother's abdomen, or breech position where the baby's head is up and the baby's buttocks are in the pelvis-alcohol malpresentation's. In this situation, in labor, the mother would require a cesarean delivery. The baby could be head down in the pelvis, but still have abnormal positions like face presentation or chin presentation or face up presentation. These are situations where normal vaginal delivery can be either difficult or not possible without complications. READ MORE

    If your menstrual cycle date is a little delayed, then you start having breast tenderness/sensitivity and bloating. At times, people can even have nausea, all due to hormonal changes, but the pregnancy test is negative. All of these are also signs of early pregnancy.
