Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Hanni Salih, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Salih is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist who can be found on staff at The Start Center for Cancer Care in San Antonio, Texas.

The Start Center for Cancer Care provides some of the most advanced treatments and technology available to treat patients with cancer. It represents the union of South Texas Oncology and Hematology (STOH) and South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics (START).

“The physicians of the START Center aim to usher in a new era in cancer treatment, one that combines customized, streamlined cancer treatment with groundbreaking, accelerated drug development efforts. The center houses a full spectrum of clinical care for cancer patients, including chemotherapy, state-of-the-art radiation therapy, hormonal therapy, and wellness programs. Back in 2012, Dr. Salih earned his medical degree from the Meharry Medical College School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon graduation, he went on to complete his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.

Following his education, the doctor became board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.
