ANDREW MOYES, MD

Dr. Moyes is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon specializing in laser vision correction surgery (LASIK) and cataract surgery. His passion is bringing his patients joy through improved sight, whether he is treating them at home in Kansas City, in surrounding communities or during one of his frequent trips to Haiti.

The doctor graduated with honors from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and completed a one-year internship in internal medicine at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. He then completed a three-year residency at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center.

Following his residency, he enhanced his medical education by completing an additional sub-specialty fellowship in corneal eye disease and refractive surgery at the University of Minnesota. 

A leader in refractive surgery, Dr. Moyes has performed over 23,000 refractive procedures during his career. He has served as a Clinical Investigator for multiple FDA studies in the area of refractive surgery, cataract surgery, and corneal eye disease.

Moreover, he has written numerous educational book chapters and scientific papers, and actively participates in a variety of research initiatives. 

ANTHONY J. VERACHTERT, OD

Dr. Verachtert is a residency-trained optometrist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery care.

Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Loyola University-Chicago, he went on to complete a Doctor of Optometry degree and an additional Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Science from the Illinois College of Optometry. He enhanced his training by completing an additional residency in corneal eye disease and refractive  surgery at the Hunkeler Eye Center.

Dedicated to research, Dr. Verachtert has long served as a Clinical Investigator for FDA clinical research studies. His areas of interest include refractive surgery, dry eye, and new pharmaceuticals. 

During his career, he has written several scientific articles published in professional medical publications. He has also given numerous presentations for professional organizations throughout the United  States.

JOHN G. GELVIN, OD

Dr. Gelvin is a fellowship-trained optometrist specializing in glaucoma. 

Having been in practice for over a decade, he completed his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Indiana University School of Optometry. He completed his residency in advanced ophthalmic disease at Northeastern State University, W.W. Hastings Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, and at Vision Education Foundation, Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Gelvin served as Chairman of the National Board of Examiners in the Optometry Clinical Skills Examination Committee. Each year, he is a Chief Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Recently, he served in the capacity of President of the Christianville Foundation Board of Directors in addition to being a member of the board for nine years, which coordinates missionary activities in Haiti. 

Dedicating much of his efforts to numerous medical and community organizations, he is Director of ChristianVision Eye Services to Haiti – as part of his role in the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, he is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Optometric Association, the Kansas City Optometric Society, and the Board of the Missouri Optometric Association (Officer).

Active in education and training, Dr. Gelvin has extensive teaching and research experience in glaucoma. He instituted the Ophthalmic Disease Service at the Indiana University School of Optometry. His scientific work has appeared in medical textbooks and journals, including Optometry and Vision Science, Optometry Clinics, and Journal of the American Optometric Association.

DANIEL BETTIS, MD

Dr. Bettis is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon specializing in cataract surgery, lens implant surgery, and the surgical management of glaucoma (including minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery). He enjoys using his relationship with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan utilizing the latest evidence-based technology.

Born and raised in Kansas City, it is there that he acquired his love of good barbecue and the Royals. He was selected as a National Merit Scholar and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Distinction from the Harding University Honors College with degrees in Psychology and Spanish. He then went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Medicine. There, he garnered multiple scholarships and awards for academic achievement, including third-year acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. 

Following residency, Dr. Bettis stayed on to complete an additional fellowship in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery before being recruited to the University of Iowa to introduce minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery. At Iowa, he was recognized as a “Top Doctor” in Ophthalmology and received the Faculty Teaching Award for dedication to excellence in medical student education. 

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Bettis has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles. He also has a passion for medical outreach, which has carried him around the globe and into enduring partnerships in Haiti and Honduras. 

In his spare time, one can find him enjoying the outdoors with his wife, two children, and their miniature goldendoodle, Rusty. 

MICHAEL CHAPPELL, MD

Dr. Chappell is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, tear drainage system, bones and contents of the orbit around the eye, and the face. He enjoys the breadth of the field of oculoplastics and is continually fascinated by the form and function of the periocular and facial tissues.  

A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, he received his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He then went on to earn his medical degree, graduating with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha), from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center and a residency in ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center.

Following his residency, Dr. Chappell completed a two-year oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery (oculoplastics) fellowship, accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, at the University of Washington in Seattle. At the conclusion of his fellowship, he received the Marvin H. Quickert Thesis Award – a prestigious recognition given to the most outstanding research conducted in the United States by oculoplastics fellows for that year.

Happily married, Dr. Chappell and his wife, Mandi, are very excited about being in the Kansas City area with the opportunities that the city offers to them and their three children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys listening to and playing music, playing soccer, running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.   

MICHELLE BOYCE, MD

Dr. Boyce is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon specializing in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and corneal eye disease. She loves working with patients to find the course of treatment that best suits their lifestyle, and helping them achieve their best possible vision.

She received her undergraduate education from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri and graduated with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) from St. Louis University School of Medicine. She then completed a one-year internship in internal medicine and a three-year residency in ophthalmology at The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Following her residency, Dr. Boyce enhanced her training by completing a subspecialty fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

LINDSEY MCDANIEL, MD

Dr. McDaniel is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery.

After earning her medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, she completed her residency in ophthalmology at the renowned University of Missouri Medical Center. Her advanced fellowship in glaucoma was completed at Boston University and at the University of Missouri.

Outside of medicine, Dr. McDaniel enjoys traveling, staying active, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Chevy.
