Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Terry L. Lester, who serves patients in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A competent hospitalist, Dr. Lester is affiliated with CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, established in 1865 by the Sisters of Charity, was the first organized healthcare facility in the New Mexico territory. Located in Santa Fe, the 200-bed hospital operates under a 50/50 partnership with CHRISTUS Health and local community health impact organization, Anchorum St. Vincent. Together, the hospital and outpatient clinics provide the more than 300,000 residents of north-central New Mexico with access to 39 services and lines of specialty care.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Lester graduated cum laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology from Heidelberg College, and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. He completed his residency in internal medicine from The Ohio State University Medical Center.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in hospital medicine and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Society of Hospital Medicine.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. The primary focus is caring for hospitalized patients and co-management with other specialties. Hospitalists take an active part in medical care and ensure a safe discharge for the patients they take care of. They are being increasingly involved in administrative roles, given their expertise and collaboration with various teams in the hospital. 

Among his various accolades, Dr. Lester has been the recipient of the Hospice of Anchorage, Humanitarian of the Year Award, and the Providence Alaska Medical Center Hero Award.
