Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Nicolas Villa Guillen, who serves patients in Spokane, Washington. 

Dr. Guillen is a fellowship trained gastroenterologist whose expertise encompasses a wide range of conditions, including those affecting the esophagus, stomach, intestines, gallbladder, liver, and pancreas. He has a particular interest in advanced procedures like endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

In July of 2015, Dr. Guillen became an integral part of MultiCare and is presently based at MultiCare Rockwood Digestive Health Center in Spokane, Washington. His affiliations include MultiCare Valley Hospital and MultiCare Deaconess Hospital.

Dr. Guillen’s educational journey began in Guatemala, where he earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Francisco Marroquín University. He then relocated to Texas, where he completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in 2011 and 2014, respectively. Furthering his expertise, he underwent an additional fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

To further validate his qualifications, Dr. Guillen achieved board certification in gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Guillen is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Guatemalan College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
