Back in 1976, Dr. Dolan earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship at Toronto General Hospital, followed by his residency at the University of Toronto. His fellowships in neurological research and neurological surgery were completed at the Medical Research Council of Canada – Sunnybrook Medical Center, and at Toronto General Hospital, respectively.
A Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Canada (FRCS(C)) and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS), the doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, the North American Skull Base Society (founding member), the Joint Section on Neuro-trauma and Critical Care of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Section on Tumors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the World Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, cervical and lumbar disc disease, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
