Does Crohn's disease require surgery?
In my experience, eventually, all patients with Crohn's will need surgery. We try and put it off as long as possible, but when the medications stop working, and they probably will, then you will likely need surgery. Prior to surgery, there are multiple flare-ups and significant weight loss. I hear you loud and clear and understand it can sometimes be scary to see your body change almost daily before your eyes. I think one of the best ways of getting a handle on weight gain is to first start logging her daily intake. Make sure he right down everything you eat for each day and at the end of the day calculate the calories and see if you are consuming more than you really should. Chances are that if you are gaining more weight than her OB/GYN want you to then you're probably consuming more calories than he really need. Dr. Sawka attended the Ross University School of Medicine, where he graduated with his Medical Degree in 1987, giving him over three decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his Medical Degree Dr. Sawka completed his internship with the West Suburban Hospital Medical Center. To further his education, Dr. Sawka completed his residency with Sparrow Hospital. Following his internship, he undertook his fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma Research with Boston City Hospital in Boston. Dr. Sawka is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Sawka is currently on staff at Beaumont Hospital Henry Ford Hospital.
