  • How do they fix tooth erosion at the gum line?

Depends on the cause…we can do bonding, similar to fillings, but if the erosion is caused by gum recession then that would need to be addressed. The dentist will determine the cause and how best to address it. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Can a broken tooth crown be fixed?

Some will say yes, but really it is best to replace it. READ MORE

  • Is a tooth infection an emergency?

Without looking at X-rays and absent pain, it may not meet the definition of an emergency. However, it is an active infection which will do nothing but get worse and more expensive to treat. In addition, it can cause bad breath, sinus infections, bacteria can migrate throughout your body, and it lowers your overall immune resistance because your body is fighting the infection. I can put It another way: if you had a smelly, puss-filled wound on your hand, would you think it was an emergency to get it taken care of? Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Can Invisalign damage teeth?

Anytime you are moving teeth, there can be damage. That is why going to an orthodontist is so important. That is what they do and it increases the chances of a positive outcome that will last. If you don’t adjust your teeth correctly, they have a higher chance of going back or having some other issue. Go see an orthodontist and let them tell you the best way to have the smile you want. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • What is the difference between sealants and fillings?

Sealants are done on healthy teeth with no decay to attempt to prevent decay. Fillings are done where decay was removed and tooth structure needs to be replaced. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • What tooth do you massage for a toothache?

That is an interesting question. Massage is typically for joints and soft tissue, but your teeth are neither. If you have a toothache, then massage will be a distractor, but not actually do anything else. Go to the dentist. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Does periodontal disease go away on its own?

Most likely not. It will need treatment, and a significant amount to get rid of it. It will probably take at least a year or two of going every 3 months. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • My filling hurts with the slightest amount of pressure?

Fillings can be sensitive after they are done, sometimes for a few weeks. We use desensitizer to avoid this. However, if it is pressure then the issue could also be that the filling is a touch high and needs to be adjusted. If it has been over two weeks then give your dentist a call or if it very bad then call them as well. Remember, fillings are cutting part of the body away and then repairing it so some discomfort can happen. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • How long should you wait to eat after a filling?

Can eat right away if it is light cured resin, but recommend waiting until the anesthesia wears off so you don’t bite yourself. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • When can you eat after a filling?

It depends what material was used on the filling, but normally if it is light cured you can eat as soon as you leave……be careful not to bite your cheek while you are still numb. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Can you get partial dentures with no back teeth?

It depends what you are talking about – partials in front or partials to replace the back teeth? All depends on what the other teeth look like. With partials you have to have something strong to anchor them to…..there are a lot of different ways to do it and it is really only something that can be answered after an exam and x-rays. Jim Kline Administrative Staff READ MORE

  • Can food get stuck in dentures?

Yes, food can get stuck anywhere there is a space for it. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Can a receding gum line be reversed?

Yes, but if you wait your teeth will start to get loose and then you are looking at dentures or implants. It won’t be inexpensive to stop the disease progression at this point, but it can be done…….so you should go see a Dentist ASAP. READ MORE

  • Are there any painful side effects after a teeth cleaning?

If you have been going at least every six months, then you would probably know the answer. I have to guess that you have neglected your oral health so there might be some discomfort, and if you need scaling and root planning, then you may have some pain, but that is why we suggest a minimum of twice a year... • Do all cavities need to be filled?

Cavities are decay. It is kind of like if you have a cut on your finger that is infected and you just watch it get bigger and bigger – eventually your finger rots off, but you don’t have do anything about it….the decay will move from one finger to the other until they are gone……eventually it will move to your blood and go other places in your body. Nothing says you have to stop the rotting flesh, but once it is rotting you will not be able to stop it on your own. So to answer your question – you don’t have to get them filled – you can ignore the bad breathe the bacteria causes and wait until the decay hits the nerve and causes pain or until the tooth breaks off. Hopefully, the bacteria in your mouth, that all your food and drink passes, won’t go elsewhere in your body. Hopefully, it won’t go directly into the arteries that pass through your neck and go elsewhere – but you cannot get rid of the decay on your own, you need a dentist to remove the decay and fill the remaining hole so it does not get food and more bacteria in it. There is an old saying you only need to take care of the teeth you want to keep. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • Is it normal for your tooth to hurt after a crown?

It depends on the tooth and the depth of the damage. Normally it takes your mouth about a week or two to get used to a crown so you may experience some pain in that time. Sometimes if the decay or damage is deep enough the tooth will continue to hurt and may need a root canal. Then there is also the chance of referred pain and phantom pain, but those are less likely. Follow your dentist's post-op instructions and give it a week to see if it calms down. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • How long does a root canal take?

Depends on which teeth, how many roots are being done, the shape of the root, what type of anesthesia is needed, your medical history, if you had any caffeine before your treatment, and why the Root Canal treatment needs to be done. On Average 1-2 hours…..but as I said it all depends. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • What is the best way to treat a cavity?

The accepted treatment is to have the decay removed using a dental drill and then to fill the void created by the cavity with a resin composite. There is no alternative that has been proven to work over the long term or really work at all. There are a lot of unscientific rumors on the internet – most of them do nothing and some can actually cause more problems. Trust your dentist. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • What is the cause of bad breath?

There are many causes – could be decay that has not been treated in one or more of your teeth, could be xerostomia, could be acid reflux, could be a lot of different things…….start by seeing a dentist and asking them. Jim Kline READ MORE

  • How many dental implants can you have?

It all depends where you are missing teeth. We can do a lot of amazing things with implants. For instance, we can do full dentures on 3 to 4 implants. Implants are expensive, but I would get them if I was missing any teeth as they tend to be less trouble once they are in and stable. One note is, do not go cheap with them. Find someone to place them who is using the Nobel Biocare system, it is the best out there in my opinion. Have a good day, Jim Kline READ MORE
