The Eskenazi Health Total Joint Replacement Program offers joint replacement surgery to those suffering from moderate to severe osteoarthritis or chronic joint pain in the hips, knees and shoulders. Staff members provide coordinated care from first consultation through surgical recovery and rehabilitation. 

Located on the third floor of the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center, Eskenazi Health Orthopedics provides a full range of services to help patients maintain strong bones, care for injuries and disorders, and fight cancers occurring in the bones. It also provides expertise in the treatment of orthopedic trauma cases at the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health.

A 1981 graduate of the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Dr. Ertl went on to perform his internship at the University of Southern California. He then completed his residency at St Joseph Hospital, Chicago Naval Regional Medical Center, followed by his fellowship at the University of California, Sacramento.

With over four decades of experience in his field, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
