Naveen Pokala, MD, serves as the Director of Robotic urology in the division of urology at the University of Missouri, School of Medicine. He joined the division as assistant professor in Urology in 2011. Dr. Pokala received his medical school degree from Osmania Medical College in India, followed with urology training in the United Kingdom and completed the examination and was a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Dr. Pokala later completed research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. He completed his urology training at the Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He excelled academically during his training years and is the recipient of multiple awards and a Gold medal during his medical and surgical training. He received extensive training in robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, testes and bladder cancer. Dr. Pokala is a MD Anderson Cancer Network certified physician for Urological cancer treatment. He practices uro-oncology at Elllis Fishel cancer center and has a busy oncology practice and evaluates and treats patients with kidney, bladder, prostate and testicular cancer. Dr. Pokala’s main area of expertise and is in Robotic surgery for treating different urological cancers. The Robotic urology program under his leadership is currently the busiest Robotic Urology program in Mid- Missouri. Dr. Pokala has been invited to demonstrate live robotic surgery internationally and has proctored other urological surgeons in the US and Internationally. Dr. Pokala’s innovative Robotic surgical techniques have won awards at national and international urological meetings. He is one of the few surgeons in the United States who has successfully performed complex robotic surgeries for patients with advanced kidney cancer. His research interests include cancer of the prostate, kidney, testes and bladder, clinical outcomes and database studies. His research has lead to over 100 publications and presentations and has been recognized with awards at various national and international meetings. Dr. Pokala has clinics at both the University hospital and Ellis Fishel cancer center and also cares for patients with kidney stones, benign prostatic hypertrophy, hematuria and other general urological conditions.
