Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Daniel A. Nicholson, who serves patients in Georgia.

Dr. Nicholson is a licensed and board-certified orthopedic surgeon on the team of providers at Perimeter Orthopaedics, PC, in Atlanta and Woodstock, Georgia.

A specialist in sports medicine, he is known for his expertise in arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. He also maintains a special interest in preventing and treating ACL injuries, and in cartilage restoration procedures. His primary goal is to ensure his patients trust that he is acting in their best interest. He strives to get them back to doing what they love as quickly as possible.

In his practice, Dr. Nicholson is passionate about building a strong and personable relationship with his patients. By engaging with his patients holistically, he is better equipped to optimize their surgical and nonsurgical outcomes and provide an overall improved quality of life. He enjoys privileges at Northside Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, and looks forward to providing exceptional care for his patients.

Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Nicholson graduated from the University of Florida. He continued his medical education at Emory University School of Medicine, where he completed his medical degree. He then went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and finished his training with a sports medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Over the course of his fellowship, he gained invaluable experience as an associate team physician for a number of high-profile sports organizations, including the Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, Houston Texans, Houston Dynamo, and the University of Houston Athletics department.

With extensive knowledge and experience that make him an exceptional doctor, Dr. Nicholson is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

His professional affiliations include membership status with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation. 

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Nicholson enjoys playing sports, following his favorite teams, and spending time with his family, including his wife (an Atlanta dermatopathologist) and two daughters.
