Dr. Welsh is a highly trained radiation oncologist whose clinical interests include brain tumor, HDR/LDR brachytherapy, lung cancer, prostate cancer, proton therapy, and radiosurgery. He works out of Loyola Outpatient Center & Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center in Maywood, Illinois.

The Loyola Outpatient Center is located at the south end of the Loyola University Medical Center campus. It brings together dozens of medical services in one location to collaborate on complex clinical issues.

The Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center is on the east side of the Loyola University Medical Center campus, facing First Avenue and south of the main hospital. It brings together all aspects of cancer care to one site. Beautifully designed for the comfort and convenience of patients, the center also promotes optimal collaboration between healthcare providers. 

Professionally, Dr. Welsh is affiliated with Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Affairs Hospital (serving as Chief of Radiation Oncology), Loyola University Medical Center, and AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center. He has led research in boron neutron capture therapy and fast neutron therapy when he was the neutron therapy physician at the NIU Institute for Neutron Therapy at Fermilab.

Committed to the education of resident physicians and medical students, he enjoys teaching both at the bedside and in the classroom. He is a Professor at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Welsh graduated with his medical degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in 1990. He then went on to serve his residency in radiation oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Furthering his training, he completed a fellowship in helical tomotherapy at the University of Wisconsin.

Dedicated to clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The mission of the ABR is to certify that its diplomates demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skill, and understanding of their disciplines to the benefit of patients.
