An exceptional neurosurgeon with expertise in oncologic and complex spinal surgery, Dr. Ramos is affiliated with UChicago Medicine Orland Park & Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) - Hyde Park. He cares for patients with malignant or benign tumors of the spine, spinal cord and brain, as well as patients with other degenerative or traumatic spine disorders. He has significant experience with minimally invasive spinal reconstruction techniques, which aim to preserve function while reducing pain and recovery time.
UChicago Medicine Orland Park offers quick and convenient specialty and primary care in a state-of-the-art outpatient center. It has a robust offering of primary care services as well as specialty care for people who need help managing chronic illnesses. It is also a destination for screening mammography, lung cancer screening, bone density testing and cancer risk and prevention. The Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine - Hyde Park, also known as DCAM, is UChicago Medicine’s flagship outpatient facility. Located in Chicago's historic Hyde Park neighborhood, it puts comprehensive diagnostic care and world-class treatment under one roof. Home to dozens of primary and specialty clinics as well as a pharmacy, the building includes more than 300 exam rooms, nearly 100 procedure rooms, surgery suites and imaging equipment including PET/CT and MRI scanners.
Beginning his professional pursuits at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Dr. Ramos completed his internship at the University of South Florida, and his residency at Tampa General Hospital. Finally, he completed his fellowship at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, he is a proud member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of Lateral Access Surgery.
As for his academic appointments, Dr. Ramos serves as an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery, and is the Program Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the University of Chicago.
In addition to his clinical work, he is a dedicated educator and active author. He has written several book chapters on spinal tumors, degenerative spine disorders and other topics in complex spine surgery.
