Get to know Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Christopher Steen, who serves patients in Bothell, Washington.

Dr. Steen thoroughly enjoys all aspects of practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery. His special surgical interests include corrective jaw surgery, dental implant rehabilitation, and post-traumatic maxillofacial reconstruction. Caring patient interaction as well as the delivery of technically excellent surgery are very important to him.

At Bothell Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, he practices alongside Drs. Dmitry Peysakhov and Brian Rubens. The trio offer a full scope of surgical services including: treatment planning and the placement of titanium dental implants; removal of teeth including impacted wisdom teeth; corrective jaw surgery; specialized outpatient anesthesia services including sedation and general anesthesia; specialized imaging including digital radiography and cone beam CT scanning technology; surgical services requiring an outpatient surgical facility or hospital; diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the mouth, jaws, face, and facial skeleton; treatment of traumatic injuries to the face and fractures of the facial skeleton; and reconstructive and pre-prosthetic surgery including bone grafting to the jaws.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Steen grew up in several locations in central Europe. He graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia and then studied at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Gonzaga, he studied at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery there.

After graduating from the University of Washington, Dr. Steen moved to New Orleans to do an internship in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Louisiana State University/Charity Hospital. During this time, he was faced with the Hurricane Katrina disaster. He remained at Charity Hospital to care for stranded patients and was the last oral & maxillofacial surgeon to leave the hospital…on an airboat!

He stayed in New Orleans to undertake a six-year residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Louisiana State University. His comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery training included a medical education at Louisiana State University, where he earned his medical degree. After medical school, he completed residency training in general surgery/neurosurgery residency, followed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Steen is a member of several professional & academic organizations, including: the American Dental Association, the Washington State Dental Association, the Seattle King County Dental Society, the Washington State Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (Fellow), the American Association of Anesthesiologists, and AO North America. 

Finding joy in teaching, he has taught students and residents at the University of Washington and Swedish Medical Center. In addition, he enjoys lecturing, and has spoken at continuing education events at the University of Washington, the Horse Creek Study Club, and the Snohomish County Dental Hygiene Society.
