In his current capacity, Dr. Benowitz also serves as the Medical Director of AAA Comprehensive Healthcare, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center in North Hollywood, California. The Center exists to serve those who have limited access to healthcare, welcoming low-income, the uninsured, and the under-insured. The providers offer primary medical care, dental care, pediatrics, prenatal care, and behavioral health care.
Among the doctor’s professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine, and the American Academy of Pain Management.
Dr. Benowitz had a long career as a Reserve and Active Duty Air Force officer. He served as Reserve Medical Unit Commander, augmentee to the Reserve Surgeon General and prior to becoming a doctor as a Disaster Preparedness Officer. Dr Benowitz a was a Chief Physician and a Chief Flight Surgeon on retirement holding the rank of Colonel.
Back in 1976, Dr. Benowitz graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to perform his residency at Malcolm Grow Medical Center, followed by attending the School of Aerospace Medicine and fellowships at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
In practice for over four decades, he is board-certified in geriatric medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body.
Likewise, he is board-certified in family medicine/OMT & preventive medicine-aerospace medicine by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS). The NBPAS is committed to providing board recertification for both MDs and DOs that ensures physician compliance with national standards and promotes lifelong learning.
