An experienced orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hughes tends to patients at his private practice – Hughes Orthopedics – in San Mateo, California with satellite clinics in Sacramento, Stockton, San Jose and Oakland, CA.  Committed to comprehensive care, he provides both surgical and nonsurgical solutions to alleviate chronic pain in areas such as the shoulders, hips, back and knees. He also has over a decade of experience in regenerative medicine, offering advanced outpatient procedures that utilize platelet-rich plasma (PRP),  bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) and micro-fragmented adipose tissue (MFAT) for non-operative treatment of joint pains.

With an illustrious academic journey, he earned his undergraduate degree in Physics from UCLA with top honors, and graduated with his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at The George Washington University Medical School, where his groundbreaking research earned accolades from the orthopedic community in Washington, D.C.

In order to further his training, Dr. Hughes completed a fellowship in sports medicine at one of the leading medical centers and teaching institutions in the country, Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri. There, he honed his skills while serving as the esteemed team physician for renowned sports franchises such as the St. Louis Rams, Cardinals, and Blues.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Driven by a profound commitment to community welfare, Dr. Hughes devotes considerable time to serving the underserved and less fortunate by members of San Mateo and its surrounding areas. Renowned for his compassionate approach, he often goes the extra mile, making house calls to elderly patients and children with special needs. His dedication knows no bounds, as evidenced by his willingness to travel internationally, performing innovative surgeries in places as far-reaching as Australia and Hong Kong.
