Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Ben G. Raimer, who serves patients in the State of Texas.

Dr. Raimer is a board-certified pediatrician in practice with Pediatric Primary Care Clinic, Texas City. Located in the UTMB Health Primary and Specialty Care Clinic, the Pediatric Primary Care Clinic provides primary care services to children. 

A physician-leader whose service to the Galveston community and the state of Texas has spanned five decades, Dr. Raimer also serves as the Senior Vice President for The Office of Health Policy and Legislative Affairs at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. He is a tenured professor in the departments of Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Community Health. 

The doctor’s connection to UTMB goes back even further. After receiving his undergraduate degree from East Texas Baptist University, he went on to earn his master’s degree in human genetics from the UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, followed by his medical degree from the UTMB at Galveston School of Medicine. Since completing an internship and residency in pediatrics at UTMB in 1977, he has provided community-based medical care to scores of young patients living in Galveston and neighboring counties.

Among his professional background, Dr. Raimer has served as Vice President for the UTMB Office of Community Outreach, Chief Physician Executive and CEO of UTMB Correctional Managed Care, Medical Director of the UTMB Primary Care Outpatient Clinics, CEO for Community Health Services, and Chief Physician Executive for UT-MED.

Much of his practice has been devoted to the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with behavioral disorders and learning disabilities. He is a nationally recognized expert and author on the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect, as well as has extensive experience in health care practice management, correctional health care, and telemedicine.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). Founded in 1933, the ABP is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certification is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence. 

Throughout the years, Dr. Raimer has held numerous leadership positions with statewide, community, and health-related organizations. He is a former President of the Texas Pediatric Society and a past Chairman of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, among others.

For his public service, he has received numerous accolades and has been honored by several state and national children’s advocacy organizations. The Galveston County Daily News bestowed Dr. Raimer with its Citizen of the Year Award in 2008. He is also a recipient of the Ray E. Helfer, M.D. Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Alliance of Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. As a pediatrician, Dr. Raimer examines, diagnoses, and treats children of all ages with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. He understands that children change rapidly and they must be approached with an appreciation for their stage of physical and mental development.
