He studied medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, obtained his medical degree from The University of the State of New York, and completed his internship and residency in family medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Thereafter, he attained board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.
