Dr. Barai is regarded as one of the area’s premier physicians in hematology-oncology and has achieved a best-in-class recognition for his medical approach and methodology. He is in practice with Premier Oncology Hematology Associates, seeing patients at the offices in Merrillville and Munster, Indiana.
While he devotes most of his time to personalized patient care, he carves out time for continuing his education at leading medical institutions including Harvard Medical School, the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and the University of California. For over 20 years, he has been committed to educating and training future physicians as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Barai attended and graduated with his medical degree from Medical College Baroda in India in 1971. He then went on to serve his internship and residency in internal medicine at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in medical hematology at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University, and a fellowship in hematology at Rush University Medical Center.
He came to Northwest Indiana from the teaching faculty of Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. He is affiliated with Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, Franciscan Health Hammond, and Franciscan Health Dyer.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Barai has served as the Medical Director of the Cancer Institute at Methodist Hospitals, a member and President of the Medical Licensing Board of the State of Indiana, on the Advisory Board of the Indiana University School of Business, a Trustee and President of FIA Chicago, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Manav Seva Mandir, a Trustee of the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago, a Trustee of the Indian American Cultural Center NW Indiana, a Voluntary Medical Director of Sickle Cell Foundation of NW Indiana for the Children of Gary, and as the Director of the American Cancer Society, NW Indiana.
Continuously advancing his efforts, he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association.
