Get to know Chiropractor Dr. Matthew S. Hakes, who serves patients in Mason, Ohio.

Leading chiropractor, Dr. Hakes works alongside Dr. Brent A. Spille, DC, at American Family Chiropractic Center in Mason, Ohio. They offer quality chiropractic care to people of all ages, with special emphasis on family health through proper nutrition, exercise, and stress control.

In practice for over 25 years, the doctor-duo are committed to excellence in the service to their patients and in helping them achieve their individual health goals. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies at the Cincinnati State Technical College and the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Hakes went on to obtain his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1994. His extensive post-graduate studies entitled: spinal biomechanics, orthopedics, radiology, industrial back injury and ergonomics, gait analysis, soft tissue examination and treatment, myofascial therapy muscle testing, temporomandibular joint diagnosis and treatment, extremity examination and treatment, as well as advanced physiological therapeutics. 

“Education is important to me, it is the foundation that allows me to provide the most up to date care for my patients” as stated by the doctor. In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of the American Chiropractic Association, the American Back Society, the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, the Southwestern Ohio Chiropractic Association, and the Palmer College Alumni.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain and back pain. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself without the use of medication or surgery.
