About

Dr. Rex Amonette is nothing short of a legend in the dermatology and medical community. As a specialist in Mohs Micrographic surgery, Dr. Amonette has popularized the procedure which has forever revolutionized dermatologic surgery and skin cancer treatment. Growing up the son of a peach farmer in Nashville, Arkansas, Dr. Amonette humble beginnings did not foreshadow his academic and professional achievements to come. Dr. Amonette was the first to use the Mohs procedure in the Mid-South and the second dermatologist nationally to be fellowship trained. For 25 years he has trained physicians from across the country. Because of revolutionaries such as Dr. Amonette, Mohs Micrographic Surgery is now the staple of skin cancer treatment and used across the world; in Europe, South America, and South Africa. In 1995, Amonette held the prestigious position of President of the American Academy of Dermatology. In his community, he has also served as President of the Memphis Medical Society. His admirable work in the field was acknowledged in 2005 after being awarded the 'Gold Medal Award' from the American Academy of Dermatology.
