  • Teeth Grinding, Mouth Breathing and The Tongue Connection

Teeth grinding can lead to teeth sensitivity, worn enamel, and tooth fracture, which may require extensive dental treatment such as root canal therapy and crowns. Many people grind their teeth during the night or daytime and don't even realize it. Some people grind due to daily stress, habit, and...

  • What can I do about my sensitive teeth?

There are many good treatments for sensitive teeth. There are many good toothpastes for teeth sensitivity such as Sensodyne, Pronamel, and Colgate sensitive toothpaste. They can be more effective if you just spit out after brushing and not rinsing out with water. This allows the toothpaste to stay on the sensitive teeth longer. Fluoride rinses can also help with teeth sensitivity. Teeth sensitivity can also occur due to teeth grinding, so a good mouth guard will also help. You should see your dentist to see the reason for the sensitivity. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Can you suggest some way to reduce sensitivity?

Teeth grinding can cause teeth sensitivity especially the bottom front teeth. Teeth grinding can wear away the tooth enamel and cause root sensitivity. Please visit your dentist to see if a good mouth guard will help. There also many good toothpastes and mouth rinses for teeth sensitivity. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Are electric toothbrushes any better for the teeth?

Yes, electric toothbrushes are better cause they move in a continuous motion whereas our hands cannot. Start with a simple inexpensive electric toothbrush to see if it works well with you. You can use the electric toothbrush one time a day and brush manually with your hands another time. Also, ask you dentist to recommend a good one for you. Good luck! READ MORE

  • What can be done for chipped tooth?

I am sorry to hear about your front tooth. A composite filling or bonding is a reasonably priced option to fix your chipped tooth. However, if the chip or fracture is very large, a crown which is more expensive may be required to protect the tooth. If you chipped the tooth from teeth grinding, a good mouth guard is recommended to prevent more teeth fracture. Please visit your dentist for further evaluation and treatment. Good Luck! READ MORE

  • How long will a teeth whitening treatment last?

Teeth whitening treatment with a dentist can last 6 months to one year depending on whether you smoke or drink coffee and tea. During the treatment, I recommend drinking coffee or tea through a straw to make the teeth whitening more effective. Laser teeth whitening are usually more expensive and quicker, but I like the traditional mouth trays since you can use them again for a touch up later. Please remember crowns and fillings will not whiten. Visit your dentist to see the best whitening treatment for you. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Wisdom teeth removal

Thank you for your good question. A general dentist who is experienced and properly trained can remove wisdom teeth. However, if the wisdom teeth are fully impacted meaning the teeth are deep inside the bone, usually those are best removed by an oral surgeon. Also, complicated cases or patients with compromised medical conditions are best removed by an oral surgeon who has more medical background. This does not mean a qualified general dentist who has equal training, experience, and knowledge cannot handle these diificult cases too. Hope this helps. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Adult tooth is loose. What should I do?

Thank you for your good question. The best would be to go see a dentist as soon as possible to make sure there is no fracture. Don't wiggle the tooth or bite hard foods using that tooth. If there are no fractures, the tooth should settle back into the socket and become less loose. Another good idea is to wear a sports mouth guard which will protect your teeth in the future. Good luck! READ MORE

  • Skin is shedding on the inside of my mouth (my cheeks). Is this normal?

One possibility may be your toothpaste or mouthwash contains alcohol which may cause dry mouth at night time. You can change them to see if it makes a difference. The more probable cause is teeth grinding which may also cause soreness and skin peeling inside the cheeks. A good mouth guard will help to protect both the teeth and cheeks. Please let me know if you have any further concerns or questions. Good luck! READ MORE
