I had corrective eye surgery, but I still can't read without glasses. Is something wrong?
Lasik only corrects your far vision. If you are 40 and over, we normally lose our near focus (Presbyopia) and need some sort of corrective lens such as reading glasses or bifocals. The only other reason you can't read is your vision is over-corrected from the surgery and you went from nearsighted to farsighted. If you are 40 and over, your surgeon should have explained before the procedure that refractive surgery would not help your near vision and you would need something to read with. READ MORE
I can't stand to wear contacts
Without examining the eye, I can only speculate. There are so many variables that could cause one eye to feel more uncomfortable. The left eye could have a poor tear quality, thus less lubrication, the corneal curvature could be different and the contact is not draping across the curvature in alignment so you feel the edge of the contact more or there could be inflammation under the lid of that eye only. If it happens with more than one fresh contact, I would place my money on inflammation under the lid. The newer, more breathable contacts have silicone that sometimes irritates one eye more than another causing a condition called Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC). Seasonal allergies can also cause that as well. Sometimes switching to a lower silicone content lens or one with none will help but usually a prescription steroid drop is needed to get the inflammation under control. Diabetes and eye health
Diabetes weakens the blood vessels in the body over time, especially in the eyes since they are very small. The more out of control the blood sugar, the more it can damage them. Overtime, the tiny blood vessels leak like a garden soaker hose so serum or whole blood can hemorrhage into the retina, causing scar tissue or new, abnormal, blood vessels to grow. This is called Diabetic Retinopathy and it is the leading cause of blindness in the U.S. Most people, if they take care of their blood sugar and have regular blood tests with their physician and have eye exams yearly can prevent going blind from diabetes.
