Should I floss after every meal?
Flossing is helpful, but I always try to understand the “why” are you getting cavities, especially when cavities are 100% preventable. The only cause of tooth decay is acid. Removal of the acid through brushing and flossing is helpful, but tools such as a sonicare toothbrush and a waterpik are excellent tools to improve the removal of the acids. Hope this helps. Will cavities require root canals if left untreated?
100% yes. If not treated right away you run the risk of a treatment such as an implant or root canal. The simple filling that costs a few hundred dollars if you catch it when small is much better than waiting until it costs between $2000-$4,000, or a missing tooth. READ MORE
Is a dry socket an infection?
A dry socket is not an infection. You do not need antibiotics when you have a dry socket. Dry sockets normally occur when you have exposed bone or the loss of the clot from an extraction site. This problem is easily fixed by placing a dry socket paste into the extraction site. READ MORE
Does a dental filling require anesthesia?
Everyone tolerates pain differently. I would look for a dentist that does fillings with a laser. Often times these never need anesthesia and is much more comfortable. Some still need anesthesia, but I’d say about 85-90% of individuals don’t feel anything when removing decay with a laser. READ MORE
Do dental sealants need to be reapplied?
A good placed dental sealant lasts about 3 years because of the chewing forces on the teeth. Dental sealants can be effective, but only if the person keeps the teeth with the sealants extremely clean. I see many sealants that end up with decay underneath them when the individual allows plaque bacteria to seep underneath the sealants, and then the decay can be pretty deep. If hygiene is good then it’s a good idea for sealants. If hygiene is poor then it could be a poor choice. READ MORE
Why is my tooth discolored after treatment?
My analogy of a root canal tooth is a dead tree in a forest. Think about how brittle, and weak a dead tree is compared to an alive tree. Also there are times when a dentist sometimes puts a silver mercury filling on top of the root canal, and then a crown. This will always cause discoloration. Watch the movie “Root Cause” on YouTube. Why do dentists use X-rays?
I’m a holistic based dentist and I have many patients that do not want an X-ray or are concerned with the radiation. It’s always in your best interest to get the X-ray if you want to keep your costs down. You can catch decay early on before there are lots of much more expensive and detrimental procedures. READ MORE
Which is better, root canal or implant?
I would recommend a zirconia implant. READ MORE
Why does my breath stink?
This can be digestive problems, such as acid reflux or GERD, but most likely, there can be some periodontal bone problems that need to be further diagnosed through proper dental care at a dental office. Gram Negative bacteria can be a toxic bacteria that if left under the gums for long periods of time not only causes bone loss, but also foul breath, regardless of brushing and flossing. READ MORE
My daughter chipped her front two teeth. What are our options?
Usually for chipped teeth, a white composite filling can be placed with conservative approaches, and when she gets older, you may have to have veneers or a conservative crown placed. Just watch for discoloration, because sometimes a large enough trauma can cause the nerves in the tooth to die. READ MORE
