Dr. Megan L. Oltmann is a foot and ankle surgeon in the state of Ohio. She is board qualified in forefoot, rearfoot, and reconstructive ankle surgery. She is the current Secretary of the North Eastern Ohio Academy of Podiatric Medicine, an Associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Association, and the Institute for Podiatric Excellence and Development. Dr. Oltmann graduated from the The Ohio State University with a Bachelors in Biology with a minor in dance. She attended Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. Following completion at Kent State she went on to do her internship with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and finished her residency at Mercy Health/Northern Ohio Foot and Ankle Foundation. Dr. Oltmann is now teaching faculty at the University Hospitals Podiatric Surgery Residency Program and adjunct clinical faculty for Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. She continues to give back to her profession by lecturing to incoming students at Kent State as well as at regional conferences and symposiums. Dr. Oltmann has surgical interests in foot and ankle surgery including, diabetic reconstructive surgery, sports injury management with an emphasis on dancers, fracture management, lower extremity trauma, reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, pediatric foot surgery, as well as bunion and hammertoe surgery. Dr. Oltmann has advanced training in external fixation. Dr. Oltmann is published in Podiatry Today with an article entitled “A Closer Look at Perfusion Assessment Techniques.” She presented a poster at the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care in San Antonio, TX with a poster entitled “Limb Salvage in the Setting of Severe Peripheral Arterial Disease with Left Ventricular Assist Device.” In February of 2016 published by Northern Ohio Foot and Ankle Foundation Journal she wrote a paper entitled “A Review of Common Foot and Ankle Injuries Sustained by Dancers.” In her spare time Dr. Oltmann enjoys working out, swimming in the summer months, playing volleyball, yoga, running, cooking, and baking. When she has a free weekend she enjoys traveling back to the Youngstown area where much of her family resides. She married her husband in 2014. I would not continue wearing those shoes if they are constantly rubbing in the area. They are ill fitting and you would be best served by getting a new pair. For now, if it is just a scab leave it alone, if you continue wearing those shoes, you need to pad the area so the rubbing stops. READ MORE

Knots on the bottom of my feet?
It is tough to tell where the knots on your the bottom of your feet are in your picture. If they are in your arch they might be plantar fibromas. If they are fibromas they are very tough to treat, I would seek the advise of a podiatrist. READ MORE
I have a bone growth under my heel and it hurts. What should I do?
The bone spur is not actually causing the issues the fascia band attached to it called, the plantar fascia is what is causing the pain. Usually this happens from tight muscles, inflammation, bad shoes, standing on concrete for long hours, weight gain, increase in activity. There are many causes. Why do I find it hard to flex my toes?
I am unsure without an exam or a thorough history. I would advise picking up marbles with your toes and scrunching a hand towel beneath your toes. This will help strengthen the small muscles. READ MORE

What is the best way of recovering from a sprain?
I always recommend for people to follow up with a Dr. after an ankle sprain. It is important to rehab the area properly; if not treated properly, he could continue to roll his ankle as the years go on. It is also a good idea to make sure there are no broken bones. READ MORE
I have had repeated sprains in my ankle. Will it keep happening? What can I do?
I would be seen by someone who does surgery on ankles either a podiatrist or a foot and ankle orthopedic. You may have ligaments that are torn or very stretched out from repeated sprains over the years. Or you have had several sprains and you haven't had proper rehab like physical therapy. READ MORE
Is dipping feet in hot water with Epsom salt supposed to help my heel spurs?
You can certainly soak your feet, it may feel good to soothe your tired sore feet. With plantar fasciitis (what people used to call heel spurs) stretching, icing, good supportive shoe gear, and at times anti-inflammatories are what will help. It does not go away over night though. Why do I keep getting an ingrown toenail?
Yes, there is a way to treat this issue permanently. You can have your ingrown nail removed and they can put a chemical on the cells that your nail grows from so that it doesn't continue to regrow. You can do your whole nail or just a portion. READ MORE

I would have your feet checked out by a professional, there could be so many reason your feet are bothering you after running. It could be your shoes, plantar fasciitis, arch pain, tendon issues, etc. READ MORE
How can I control the bad smell from my feet?
I would go see a Dr. if it persists. You can start by trying spray deodorant before you put your socks on in the morning. Also spraying your shoes out once a week with a disinfectant can be helpful, just be sure to let them dry out. READ MORE
My legs and feet become very heavy during my periods. What is the connection and how can I manage the pain better?
Do your feet swell a lot during your periods? Also are you on Birth Control and any history of blood clots? If it is long standing, it may just be swelling, some woman retain water during their cycles. Light compression stockings would help. READ MORE
