  • My child isn't hitting their milestones properly. Is this okay?

You should be going for regular pediatric visits. This is an issue that should be addressed during the developmental visits with your pediatrician. READ MORE

  • Is the pneumococal vaccine really necessary?

The PCV pneumococcal conjugate vaccine is one of the most impressive and important vaccines that were devised. I have single-handedly seen the decrease in serious bacterial infections, ear infections, pneumonia, UTIs since this vaccine was introduced. My oldest son was born overseas and the vaccine wasn’t yet offered there. I travelled back to the USA in order to obtain it for him. READ MORE

  • My baby sounds like he is wheezing. Should I be worried?

Usually when a parent hears wheezing, it is coming from the nose and not the lungs. Depending upon the age and symptomatology, the baby should be evaluated by a pediatrician. This is the cold and flu season, a lot of patients have bronchiolitis. READ MORE

  • Is Septalin safe for children?

First of all, there is nothing you can take that will “boost” your immune system. We inherit our constitution and ability to fight infections from our parents. There are rare congenital immunodeficiencies that have various manifestations. It is important to eat right, get proper rest and wear appropriate clothing. Upon research of this “herbal” remedy, they claim that it “boosts” the immune system. Yet there is no scientific research to corroborate that. Furthermore, the supplements industry isn’t well regulated and can potentially be harmful with some of their ingredients. For instance, there is black licorice in this particular “remedy,” which has been associated with adverse human effects like increased blood pressure and other mineral abnormalities in the body. Be wary of outlandish, unrealistic claims of medicines and durable medical products. READ MORE

  • My baby is in her rolling phase. However she didn’t roll for an entire day. Is everything okay?

There is nothing to be worried about for a short time. We worry when a baby regresses in their development. Meaning for a persistent time they stop doing things they did and revert to older milestones they did at a younger age. I wouldn’t consider a day or even a week to be a concern. READ MORE

  • Is nebulization safe? How does it work?

This is not a simple question or answer. If a child is receiving the medicine Albuterol in the nebulizer on a recurrent basis with improvement of his/her cough, then the child has asthma! If that’s the case, the long term ramifications need to be discussed, as well as potential prophylactic/preventive treatment based on the NHLBI recommendations. Frequently, doctors don’t assess appropriately or treat correctly, and just tell parents to give a nebulizer whenever they are sick. I suggest you find a doctor more knowledgeable about asthma or ask to be referred to a lung specialist, pulmonologist. READ MORE

  • My baby blinks excessively. What's wrong?

He may have a scratch, but on his cornea or eyelash. The baby should be examined by a physician. READ MORE

  • Can I do anything to stop my child from wetting the bed?
