  • I am on a naturopathic weight loss program and passing a lot of gas. Is it normal?

Yes, this is normal, but does not happen with everyone. If this continues, speak with the practitioner would is overseeing your care, they may opt to slow down how fast you are detoxing. READ MORE

  • My father has been diagnosed with IBD. Do you think naturopathic treatment may help him?

Yes, naturopathic treatment can help you father and yes it may be better for his since he has adverse reaction to his medication. I've seen pretty good results with ulcerative colitis and natural therapies. Not everyone will be cured, but if nothing more they had a decrease in the number of bowel movements per day. READ MORE

  • Can a naturopathic doctor recommend me natural medicines to treat a UTI?

In short yes they can make recommendations, but they should have the ability to properly monitor you for a short period and make appropriate referrals if they themselves are not allowed to write a prescription for an antibiotic if it is warranted. Certain bacteria that can cause a UTI can cause damage to the kidneys if a person waits too long. There are several recommendations that can be made to prevent further occurrences. READ MORE

  • What is a naturopathic treatment for removing gall bladder stones?

I've seen some results with specific herbs in conjunction with acupuncture. This is something that should be taken care of as soon as possible whether it is conventional alternative because it could lead to serious complications if it ends up stuck in one of the ducts. READ MORE

  • Are henna leaves helpful in treating hair loss?

Henna working by strengthening the shaft of the hair. While henna is NOT a protein, the hair shaft is strengthened like it is. Henna contains tannins which has astringent like properties that can help soothe/cleanse the scalp. For someone with dandruff, dermatitis or another inflammatory scalp condition, henna can help, so with a reduction of those scalp conditions, hair can grow better. I will not say that it is not possible to regrow hair on a bald spot with henna, but I have not personally seen henna do that. READ MORE

  • What are the best foods with high water content to fight dehydration?

The highest water containing foods are melons (especially watermelon), cucumbers, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and even strawberries. Other high water content vegetables are celery, squashes, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, and peas. READ MORE

  • How can you treat a headaches without taking Ibuprofen?

Looking up pressure points to relieve head or using aromatherapy such as peppermint is beneficial to relieve a headache. I recommend taking a little time to identify what may be triggering your headaches and working from there to prevent it, also may visit your local health food store for a herbal blend made for headaches. • My daughter is grinding her teeth. What could be the reason behind this?

Hello, Grinding of teeth (bruxism) in children can be from a wide range of reasons, but typically, we see grinding due to the following: teeth that are not aligned properly, pain (earache or any other pain in the body), stress/agitation, hyperactivity and less commonly parasitic infections (pinworms or other intestinal parasites). With limited information, the best thing I can advise is to speak with your child's pediatrician or other healthcare provider to find the cause and address the problem accordingly. READ MORE

  • Is Propidren safe and effective for hair loss? How does it work?

I do not have any personal experience with any of my patients using Propiden. Upon looking at the ingredients, it is a combination of herbs that help male pattern baldness by blocking Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Without knowing your full health history, it sounds like you are experiencing postpartum shedding, which is very common and can last up to 12 months. Increased DHT of the hair follicles is not the same reason for postpartum shedding, so this product may not work for you. As for safety, this product is considered unsafe if you are nursing, and each herb listed, such as saw palmetto and pygeum, can have side effects including hormonal imbalances. READ MORE

  • How safe are natural and ayurvedic medicines to treat constipation?

Since I do not know your health history, I cannot tell you if Ayurvedic or any other herbal medicine will be safe for you. The more important thing since you have been suffering with severe constipation for at least a week is to make sure you do not have an obstruction of the intestines, which is dangerous, and taking anything over-the-counter to treat your constipation would make things worse. Once you determine if an obstruction is present or not, there are several over the counter herbal blends that can be found in your local health foods store to help, but as always, you should consult your primary physician, naturopathic physician, or any other healthcare practitioner prior to consuming. • My wife is suffering from adenomyosis. Will ayurvedic medicines be able to help her?

Hello, I do not have any personal experience using Ayurvedic medicine, only western botanicals and Chinese herbs. With that being said, Ayurvedic medicine is similar to (not the same as) Chinese medicine, and it could help with the symptoms your wife is experiencing as well as possibly keep her condition from getting worse. I have not personally worked with any patients with adenomyosis or seen any cases from practitioners I know on a personal basis, but I have seen successful cases with endometriosis and uterine fibroids. These two conditions are not the same as adenomyosis, but a similar protocol would be used. READ MORE

  • Is it true that naturopathy medicines only work with the right diet?

Yes. This is true, however, the right diet is specific to the individual. Supplements for a particular condition can help, but it will work better and faster with healthy lifestyle changes (i.e., diet). Supplement use outside of a multivitamin, probiotic, and/or other specifics vitamins/minerals/herbal remedies should be used to correct deficiencies and support physiologic pathways on a short-term basis. The proper diet should be long-term. READ MORE

  • Do naturopathic diets create a lot of acidity?

Yes and No. Naturopathic diets are typically alkaline, however when a person changes to a healthier diet, they can experience detox symptoms such as headaches. When a person begins to dump toxins and/or lose weight due to a healthier diet, they can temporarily be more acidic due to the release of toxin in the blood stream, but this will go away. To help reduce these type of symptoms, some naturopathic physicians will recommend a pH balancer or support for the detox organs (kidneys, liver, etc.). I recommend discussing your concerns with a naturopathic physician before changing your diet to assist with managing any potential symptoms. READ MORE

  • Can a naturopathic treatment help in treating my acne problem?

Yes. Naturopathic treatment can help treat an acne problem. A naturopathic physician or an acupuncturist can help identify the underlying cause of your acne problem (hormone imbalance, improper diet, etc.) and make a recommendation specifically for you. READ MORE

  • Is a naturopathic diet recommended in summers?

It wil depend on the diet you are on. There is no one specific naturopathic diet. A diet recommended by a naturopathic physician is created based on the individual (paleo, gluten free, blood type, elimination and many others). You may be referring to a diet that focuses on detoxing, if so this type of diet can cause cause an electrolyte imbalance at any time, but more so in the summer, due to increased temperatures and increased sweating. If you have not consulted with a naturopathic physician yet, I recommend doing so to make sure your body can handle a detox during the summer as this is not for everyone. Overall, remaining hydrated, not exerting yourself and knowing your limits is key because an electrolyte imbalance is dangerous. READ MORE

  • Is there a treatment in naturopathy to treat hair loss?

Yes. There are naturopathic and acupuncture treatments for hair loss, but the success of the treatment will be based on the cause of your hair loss. A naturopathic physician could potentially help you. I recommend searching for a naturopathic physician in your state that offers a free or low cost introductory consult, to get a better idea if they could help your hair loss. READ MORE

  • Can naturopathy help in preventing diabetes in a person?

Yes. Naturopathic medicine can help assist you with preventing diabetes. It is much easier (and cheaper too!) to make lifestyle changes to prevent a disease than to reverse a disease, plus type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle disease. Diet/nutrition is very important when reversing or preventing diabetes. READ MORE

  • Can I consume ayurvedic medicines to sleep better?

I cannot advise you on taking ayurvedic medicine for sleep without a health history, however, some ayurvedic medicines have been used for sleep problems and there are some really good formulas that can assist with sleep. If you are on any prescription medications, it is advised to speak with your physician about possible interactions or visit an ayurvedic practitioner, naturopathic physician, or acupuncturist in your area for assistance. • I have lupus. How can I treat it naturally?

Hello, Since lupus is an autoimmune disease, there is no "one size fits all" with natural therapies. When it comes to autoimmune diseases, I aim to balance the immune system, I always begin with recommending an anti-inflammatory diet, elimination diet, or blood-type diet and work from there based on the individual. Sometimes we have to perform a food allergy panel because certain foods (even foods that are healthy) and cause the immune system to become imbalance. Second, I repair the gastrointestinal tract (leaky gut). I do typically recommend herbals, but on an individual basis because there are several herbs that can trigger an autoimmune response. I recommend finding a functional medicine physician, naturopathic physician, or acupuncturist to help assist you. READ MORE

  • Does echinacea work?

Yes, echinacea can help with a cold due to its ability to boost the immune system. You should be careful using echinacea if you suffer from any autoimmune disorders. Most individuals tend take echinacea during the winter months to prevent colds, however, you should consult with your physician to determine if echinacea is right for you and how long you as an individual should take it.
