Thank you for your question. Your wife is a wise one. :-) The kind of work we do usually affects our bodies in one way or another, due to repetition of movements. Over time this becomes a factor. In your case, your manual labor affects your back. Your work is causing your body some trauma which results in upsetting the natural flow of your body's energy (chi) then resulting in the back pain. Acupuncture works by allowing the body to heal itself, harmonize the body and bring it back to normal balance, This results in pain relief, stress relief, relaxation and a feeling of well being. It may require a few visits to get real results as well as a maintenance program to keep you going long term. Find an Acupuncture Physician in your area and get the help you need. You will be glad you did! In the mean time, make sure you do some gentle back stretches (if you can) in the mornings before you get out of bed. Example, lying on your back and pulling your knee towards your chest, while holding the stretch for 10 slow counts. Alternate them, then do them together. Do this 10 times and do not hold your breath. It will make a big difference as well making you more flexible before work. Remember to get the OK from your Primary Physician before starting any exercise program. Yours in Health! READ MORE

  • Are medicines also involved in acupuncture treatment?

There are times when the body may be able to heal itself with acupuncture only as a treatment modality. On the other hand, however, depending on the severity of the condition being treated would more likely be the need for herbal supplement/herbal formula to assist with addressing the condition in order to get the best outcome. It is not uncommon to have both. Treatment as well as herbal prescription, however, may depend on a variety of factors as would be explained by the treating Acupuncture Physician. Keep in mind that the sooner an issue is being treated after its inception, the better and faster it may be resolved without the need for herbs, but still... this is also depending the condition being treated. • Are acupressure and acupuncture the same?

Thank you for your question. No, Acupuncture and Acupressure are not the same thing, however they may both be used to treat a condition. Acupuncture is done via using tiny needles to insert in Acupuncture points of the body. Acupressure on the other hand... is applying pressure to acupuncture points for period of time to stimulate the energy in the body to bring about relief of a condition. Acupuncture and Acupressure can be done at the same time, however not to the same points. The difference is Acupressure is non-invasive while Acupuncture is invasive. During Acupuncture the needle is inserted directly into the acupuncture points by puncturing the skin when applied. Acupressure can be done by anyone as long as they know the points and the indication of those points, while Acupuncture must be performed by a licensed Acupuncture physician. You can reach out to an Acupuncture Physician in your area and request a free consultation. The Physician may be able to show you the difference of both. I hope this may be of help. Good Luck! • Maxine

I have been a patient of Dr. Allen for over 2 years. She has provided various services during this time period: Acupuncture, Tuina Massage, Cupping Therapy and Electro Acupuncture. I have had improvement in the left side of my back, hip and legs since receiving these treatments. My pain has decreased, better movement in these areas and less swelling. I am more than thankful for these services and would recommend Dr. Allen to anyone that need them.

  • Cheryl

Rosemarie is an excellent Acupuncturist with an intuitive ability to "learn your body," and treat it appropriately. Her Tuina Massage is a MUST. It is a massage that incorporates Acupuncture Meridians and relieves the pain like no other. Rosemarie is such a kind caring person with healing hands. • Brenda

When I came to Dr. Allen, I had been living with severe plantar fasciitis for a few years. I had been to an orthopedic and was about to start physical therapy and steroid treatments. As a "last resort" I decided to try acupuncture. I am happy to say that after a few months, I am living virtually pain free. In addition to treating the plantar fasciitis, she helped me with stress management and get to the root of the cause (or so to speak.) I would certainly recommend Dr. Allen and her therapy.

  • Kip

Dr. Allen is fantastic!!! My wife and I were referred by a friend. I was skeptical at first. Never had acupuncture, and was experiencing chronic lower back pain from construction work. I had seen physical therapists, and physicians, and still had the occasional spasm. Spasms cost money and time. After several visits with Dr. Allen, not only had my back pain decreased, but my acid reflux and overall stress levels were starting to lessen in frequency as well. Spasms (knock on wood) have yet to return. She is honest and open. She is knowledgeable and well versed in multiple facets of the healing process. She is comforting. She is an outstanding listener, and she is in a constant state of evaluation. From visit to visit, treatment may vary based on our pre table discussions, and this attention to detail is so hard to find in a big box medical center. Dr. Allen has become a part of our lives, and I consider her a friend. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!

  • Marsha

I had massage therapy and acupuncture treatment from Dr. Allen. She is very kind and her bedside manner is amazing. I saw Dr Allen for back pain and insomnia issues and her treatment was very helpful in resolving all of my ailments. I definitely recommend her
