How do I know the right SPF for my skin type?
Aim for an SPF 30 or higher, in a formula you are willing to use every day. Apply the product generously to be sure you are covering all areas evenly, and combine sunscreen use with other sun-safe behaviors such as seeking shade, using hats/parasols, timing your outdoor activities to avoid midday sun whenever possible. There is no such thing as a safe tan from the sun or any tanning bed. The presence of a tan is evidence that radiation has already penetrated the skin. To achieve color in a safe way, seek out bronzers, self-tanner topical products, or have spray tanning done professionally. READ MORE
My son's skin begins to itch because of sun exposure. What could be the reason for this?
There are multiple possibilities for your son's symptoms, such as heat rash, hives, or a sensitivity to the sun (photosensitivity). It would be best to have your son evaluated by a board-certified dermatologist who can take a full history and examine his skin. If possible, take your son to the doctor when the rash is present. Some offices have same-day appointments, so call a nearby dermatology clinic where they will be able to see him when his rash is active. READ MORE
