Get to know Neuropathologist Dr. James M. Henry, who serves the population of Texas. Dr. Henry graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Medical Degree from the University of Würzburg in Germany in 1964, giving him over five decades of experience in his field. He then relocated to the United States and completed his internship and Neurology residency with the Letterman General Hospital. Furthering his training he completed his Neuropathology with the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Dr. Henry is dual certified in Neuropathology and Anatomic Pathology with the American Board of Pathology. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He currently practices with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and holds an expertise in Neuropathology. When he is not working, he enjoys reading. Neuropathology is the study of disease of nervous system tissue, usually in the form of either small surgical biopsies or whole-body autopsies. Neuropathologists usually work in a department of anatomic pathology, but work closely with the clinical disciplines of neurology, and neurosurgery, which often depend on neuropathology for a diagnosis. Neuropathology also relates to forensic pathology because brain disease or brain injury can be related to cause of death. Neuropathology should not be confused with neuropathy, which refers to disorders of the nerves themselves (usually in the peripheral nervous system).
