  • I have severe bleeding during my periods which leaves me very tired. Can I take some natural supplements during this time?

There are many natural things to help with heavy bleeding, but you should see a doctor to make sure you aren't losing too much blood causing you to be anemic. Having low iron could be the cause of your fatigue. READ MORE

  • Is honey safe for kids?

Honey is completely safe and a good source of natural sugars (as opposed to artificial sweeteners) in children over 1 year of age. The infections you are most likely reading about occur when an infants gut bacteria are too immature and consuming honey then causes a botulinum toxicity. READ MORE

  • Can lavender essential oil help me during my bouts of depression?

Plant essential oils are completely safe as long as they are not being consumed internally. There are a few exceptions that still require a doctors supervision. However, if the depression is only occurring once per month it sounds like there is an underlying hormonal problem that could resolve this issue. Depression does not always need constant medication if the source of the problem is found and addressed. READ MORE

  • Can acupuncture treat digestive problems?

Having acupuncture on hand for quick relief is an amazing utilization of Chinese medicine. I've used it many times myself. If this is occurring after every meal he may need multiple treatments per week to make it an effective tool. This sometimes discourages patients and I always encourage my patients to ask for expected goals as acupuncture is a subtle art. From a western diagnosis, he may just need some GI help and rebalancing. READ MORE

  • Is there any natural treatment for PCOD?

This is my favorite question! This is my absolute favorite thing to treat. I use a combination of herbs and bio-identical hormones to regulate your body and get things back on track. If there is a history of a hormonal birth control (pill or IUD) we have some adjusting to do so we can remind your body what normal is. It's hard to get more specific without knowing personal history, but this is completely treatable with lifestyle and diet changes along with naturopathic tools. READ MORE

  • Is Propidren safe and effective for hair loss? How does it work?

That only blocks one type of hormone. Without knowing where all of your other hormones are at, it is hard to say if it would be effective. Hair loss postpartum is normal (I am still growing back mine), but excessive can be due to low thyroid or other combinations of hormone fluctuations. READ MORE

  • My mother has a constant headache despite the medications she is taking. What can I do to help her?

Headaches are a tricky beast to treat because there could be multiple causes. Naturopathic physicians take a closer look at the whole person so it is possible we find another underlying problem that triggers the headaches. As far as natural medications, it is hard to say without knowing what medications she is currently taking so there are no deleterious interactions. Find a Naturopathic doctor near you to help with adjunct care such as acupuncture and herbal medicine along with a detailed history. READ MORE

  • Does echinacea work?

Yes it does! Echinacea has immune stimulating properties and anti-viral properties. Historically, it used to be used for sepsis. Because of its stimulant properties, it should only be taken when you feel a cold coming on or are caregiving for a sick person. The properties that give the plant these abilities are only produced when the plants are stressed or exposed to environmental changes. So, finding a good source is very important when choosing herbal support. A good naturopathic physician or registered herbalist will be able to direct you to high-quality sources. READ MORE

  • What medication can you not prescribe?

We do have restrictions on our prescriptive rights, however, blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, and Ativan are within our rights to dispense. But if you find a good Naturopathic doctor, they will get you off of those things instead of just refilling them. READ MORE
