Robert Booher, DDS is a dentist currently serving his patients in Indiana. To begin his career, he attended the University of Indiana and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1975. General dentists provide a wide array of services that are vital to patients’ continued health. These services include: preventive services — helping to maintain good oral health by stopping disease before it takes hold in the mouth; restorative services — receiving timely and appropriate treatment when a problem is identified; as well as cosmetic services — performing a range of cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding - even porcelain veneers. General dentists also address overall health concerns, as oral health is seen as the mirror of general health. In fact, some dental problems may reflect issues in other parts of the body and vice versa.

How much tooth is needed for a crown?
If you have at least 2mm of tooth structure all around the tooth this is called the ferrule That is the minimum, and if you have a root canal in the tooth, the post/core is beneficial for support! sometimes I would recommend a root canal just to be able to place a post. READ MORE
Can I whiten my teeth with baking soda alone?
I have not seen it to be that effective except to help remove stain. READ MORE
What is the strongest material for a dental crown?
Gold has always been the standard of care, and does not fracture and may have some anti cario-static effect. I made a lot of non-precious metal crowns in the 90's that are sill working fine today as I see the patients come in for hygiene. READ MORE
Which is more expensive zirconia or porcelain?
Depending on the restoration and where it is used they may cost the patient the same. READ MORE
Is a crown better than filling?
The crown may support the tooth better, but requires more reduction of tooth structure usually. There are other factors to consider. You may need both. READ MORE
Are zirconia crowns safe?
Yes they are and usually hold up very well! READ MORE
Which type of crown is best for back teeth?
If you are not concerned about the color, gold is the best. It is also kinder to the tooth it bites against in the opposing arch! If you want a tooth colored crown, a zirconium crown is stronger than porcelain. READ MORE
Are porcelain crowns stronger than teeth?
I would say no! It would depend on the porcelain used and location in the mouth. I do not use all porcelain crowns anymore because of fracture. I use them in veneers along with e-max. I'd use zirconium or e-max depending on the situation. READ MORE
What's the difference between porcelain and zirconia crowns?
The porcelain is fired and the Zirconium is pressed. READ MORE
What are modern dental crowns made of?
Gold, Zirconium, e-max and combinations. READ MORE
How strong is a permanent crown?
Usually a dentist wants all crowns to last a lifetime, but in the literature, they last 7+ years. It depends on the material, the bite on the crown and how well it is taken care of. Strength alludes to megapascals of strength. You'd have to check it with the material used. READ MORE
Can you chew gum with a crown?
I would say yes but I have had a few patients over the years say the gum sticks to their crown; however very few! READ MORE
How do you tell if a tooth crown is not fitted properly?
Initially if the bite is off, food impaction, and any open areas you might see or get food in at the margin. READ MORE
How long after a crown is cemented can I eat?
Depending on the cement used but I recommend to be careful, but after 1 hour should be plenty of time. I have cemented crowns and I did not like the result and had trouble removing it in only a few minutes and then have to cut them off! READ MORE
What causes teeth to come in crooked?
You probably do not have the space required for the teeth. Also you may be a mouth breather and have and have a high vault on the roof of your mouth and have forces in your mouth causing your arch to be narrow or V shaped. If you snore this is a predictor of Sleep disturbed Breathing or SBD. READ MORE
Can I get a crown without a root canal?
Yes you can! Depending on why you need a crown. If there is sufficent trauma or decay in the tooth, it may still require a root canal at a later date. It can usually be accomplished through the crown! READ MORE

Get to know Dentist and Sleep Apnea Specialist Dr. Robert B. Booher, who serves patients in Avon, Indiana.
Dr. Booher is a remarkable dentist who serves as the Founder of Associates in Family Dentistry in Avon, Indiana.
Voted ‘Best Dentist in Hendricks County’ in 2003, 2004, and 2005, Associates in Family Dentistry work with patients so that they can achieve and maintain a beautiful smile and healthier gums and teeth. The staff take their time with their patients to explain their treatment options and inform them of additional preventative care. They feel this will lead to a more trusting doctor/patient relationship and, for many people, relieve the stress about seeing a dentist.
A native of Indianapolis, Dr. Booher is the son of Dr. Norman Booher and Dr. Olga Bonke Booher, longtime physician of Indianapolis. He attended Shortridge High School, after which he went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1971. Years later, in 1975, he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.
He served two years of active duty as a dentist at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. After a brief associateship, he started Associates in Family Dentistry in 1980. After 17 years in the Kroger Shopping Center at the corner of Rockville Road and Girls School Road, he moved the practice to his new state-of-the-art facility in Avon in 1997, where the practice is today.
A Diplomate of both the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, Dr. Booher remains a member of the American Dental Association, the Indiana Dental Association, the Indianapolis District Dental Society, the Indiana Sleep Society, the Illinois Sleep Society, the Westside Study Club, and the Chicago Dental Society.
To further his professional development, he participates in numerous continuing education courses every year, concentrating specifically on cosmetic dentistry, endodontics, TMJ migraine therapy, and dental sleep medicine. Having been involved with many advancements in dentistry through his years in practice, he now works with many sleep physicians and primary care physicians, providing their patients an effective alternative to continuous positive airway pressure and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Recently his daughter, Dr. Megan A. Booher, has joined the practice.
Most recently, Dr. Booher has been listed as an Adjunct Instructor in General Dentistry and Oral Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry through 2020. He has also been involved with Donated Dental Services since its inception. A retired Major from the Army Reserves Dental Corps, he is a member of the Scottish Rite.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
Outside of the office, Dr. Booher and his wife, Shirley, reside in Zionsville with their daughter, Megan. They attend Zionsville Presbyterian Church.
