Get to know Hematologist and Oncologist Dr. Anthony S. Stein, who serves the population of Duarte, California. Dr. Stein is an exceptionally experienced internist with extensive expertise in hematology/oncology. He has been practicing for more than twenty-five years and is currently serving patients at City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California, where he is the Director of the Leukemia Program as well as Clinical Professor/Staff Physician of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope’s Hematologic Malignancies and Stem Cell Transplantation Institute. Dr. Stein is also the co-director of the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research and principal investigator in multiple clinical trials examining the newest drugs for battling acute myeloid leukemia. Dr. Stein focuses his practice on providing excellent care for patients. He joined City of Home in 1985 and has since been committed to delivering the best possible care to his patients. Dr. Stein obtained his medical degree from the University of Cape Town School of Medicine in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1978. He then pursued a rotational internship at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Stein completed his internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before joining City of Hope Medical Center as a fellow in Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Stein is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Association of Oncology and attributes his success to excellent patient care. In his spare time, he enjoys soccer. A hematologist-oncologist who is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and/or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia and lymphoma. They will be trained in hematology, the study of blood and oncology, the study of cancer, but will specialize in treating blood cancers, such as Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphomas, leukemias and multiple myelomas. A hematologist-oncologist may also specialize in the management of solid tumors.
