How long do teeth hurt after deep cleaning?
Difficult question to answer. The discomfort level usually coincides with extent of the treatment. In addition, everyone has a different pain tolerance. Be patient while healing, continue with good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing). Warm salt water rinses, Motrin or Tylenol for pain control, and a fluoride rinse can decrease cold sensitivity due to exposure of root surfaces that were covered by the calculus prior to the scaling and root planning (deep scaling). How long does it take to cure periodontal disease?
You cannot cure periodontal disease, but you can control the disease process by treating the disease in the active phase (bleeding gums, bad breath, abscess…). Treatments may include scaling and root planing (deep scales), surgery, and frequent (3-4 months) re-care appointments (periodontal maintenance, improving your dental hygiene, particularly daily flossing). Once you lose bone, it’s gone. During the healing phase, you will achieve tissue reattachment, putting you in a stable phase. Remember: You cannot cure periodontal disease, but you can control it! Can you get a bridge after tooth extraction?
Of course, you just have to allow the extraction site to heal for six weeks before taking the final impression for the permanent bridge (your teeth can be prepped & place a temporary bridge during the healing phase). Other teeth replacements to be considered are an implant to prevent cutting down the adjacent teeth, especially if there are no restorations on them. Another option is to have a removable partial bridge. READ MORE

What happens if you don't floss often?
Very simple rule: you do not have to floss your teeth, just the ones you want to keep! Seriously, you can skip a day now & then. To receive the best benefits, you should floss ~5 days a week. The idea of flossing is to disorganize the soft, sticky plaque (which we manufacture 24/7) so it does not stay in one place & gets calcified (hard), leaving a surface for more build- up. Flossing is tough & takes time. Just try to make it part of your daily routine. Some of my patients find it easier time-wise in the shower. Flossing helps prevents periodontal (gum) disease. Does rinsing with salt water prevent dry socket?
No, but it promote healing when used at least 24 hours after the extractions. Sometimes some people are prone to dry sockets, particularly post-menopausal women and bottom teeth have a higher propensity. Following your dentist’s post-op instructions does. Continue to apply pressure on gauze - 40 minutes right after extraction - to stop bleeding, promoting a clot. To protect that clot for the next 24 hours: no spitting or rinsing after the extraction, no smoking, do not drink anything with carbonation (beer or pop), stay away from spicy foods, and stay from cold/warm foods. Remember, if you develop more discomfort ~ two-three days later, contact your dentist for relief. READ MORE
Is jaw surgery necessary for a crossbite?
A cross bite is a result of the Maxilla (upper arch) stopping growing before the Mandible (lower jaw), which results in a cross bite. Therefore, correction depends on whether you are an adult or a child. If you are a child, early orthodontic intervention with a palatial expander & with possible braces are used for completion of the correction. As an adult, your growth is completed & surgery is needed to achieve correction of a cross bite. Some people of course choose not to have surgery due to the some of the possible surgical complications & choose Orthodontic treatment to improve, not correct the situation. In addition, many do nothing & live with the cross bite. READ MORE
