Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Schmidt attended medical school at SUNY Health Science Center in Brooklyn, New York and completed his internship and residency at North Shore University Hospital. He then went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Upon completion of his training in 1998, the doctor attained board certification in gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in 1999. The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Later on, in 2018 and 2019, he attained board certification in gastroenterology and internal medicine through the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS). The NBPAS is committed to providing continuing board certification for both MDs and DOs that reduces physician burden and increases time for patient care, while upholding the highest standards of continuing medical education and lifelong learning. Dr. Schmidt then recertified in gastroenterology in November 2020 through ABIM.
Among his other roles, Dr. Schmidt has admitting privileges at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders.
