Passionate about working with patients and creating a meaningful impact through quality care, Dr. Helm takes a special interest in the treatment of skin cancers as well as new and emerging treatments for psoriasis. He is a part of the team at U.S. Dermatology Partners, where he sees patients at the clinics in Sherman and Paris, Texas.  

U.S. Dermatology Partners combines the personal level of care found in private dermatology practices with the benefits of a network of physicians working closely together. As the second-largest physician-owned dermatology practice in the United States, it has more than 94 locations throughout Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia. As a result, the staff is able to provide patients with premier medical and cosmetic dermatological care, along with the latest technology and treatment methods for diseases of the skin.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Helm earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. He completed medical school at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock and then served as an intern at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. He returned to Texas Tech University Health Science Center for his residency.

“I was drawn to dermatology because of the diversity of conditions I get to treat and the ability to have a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.” as stated by the doctor. He attributes his success to wanting to help people with skin problems to feel better about themselves.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, he is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, which is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology. 

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

Growing up in Midland, Texas, Dr. Helm enjoyed his years in Lubbock. He loves the small-town feel of Sherman and looks forward to meeting patients and community members. His hobbies include history, hiking, traveling, as well as playing tennis and golf.
