How long does Sensodyne take to work?
Typically it can take up to a few weeks to get the full benefit of Sensodyne, but many have some relief in as little as 1 or 2 nights due to the potassium nitrate. Over time, Sensodyne plugs up tiny holes called tubules in the tooth’s dentin. This can take several days. Thanks for the question! READ MORE
How long can I use chlorhexidine mouthwash?
You can use it indefinitely but bear in mind there may be some superficial staining after 2 weeks that can easily be removed by your dental professional. You can always dilute with equal parts water. I prescribe chlorhexidine rinse very frequently due to the anti bacterial properties, a true “mouth sterilizer.” READ MORE
Can a dental bridge be repaired?
If the porcelain is fractured from a bridge, it can be difficult to repair. I have had some success bonding a composite resin to an exposed metal of a front bridge, but no success in bonding to back teeth. READ MORE
How many implants does it take to replace all your teeth?
Clear choice offers what is known as “All on 4” which means an upper and lower denture can be supported by as few as 4 implants. Typically after all the teeth are removed, a conventional denture is made while implants are placed and allowed to integrate. This may take several months READ MORE
What are the beginning signs of dry socket?
After a tooth is extracted, it can be normal to experience soreness and discomfort for a few days. But if you are experiencing severe pain, swelling, and the extraction site has pus, you may be having a dry socket. This can be treated by your dentist by placing iodoform gauze dipped in eugenol and an antibiotic. READ MORE
What can I do about my gum pain?
Gum pain is usually a sign of either acute gingivitis or periodontal disease. If you have bleeding and malodor, you should seek a dental professional for an exam and xrays to diagnose and come up with a treatment plan to treat your condition. The great news, gingivitis is completely reversible with gingival tissue healing at the fastest rate in the human body! READ MORE
What could be the cause of a white tongue?
A lot of my patients complain of a white coating on their tongue. I would purchase a tongue scraper, essentially a plastic scraper that can be found at any drugstore and use it once a day as part of your normal oral hygiene regimen. READ MORE
What are the home remedies for mouth ulcers?
One home remedy involves mixing equal parts liquid Benadryl and Kaopectate, rinse for 30 seconds to a minute and spit up to 6 times daily. Also, warm salt water rinses and an over the counter product, Colgate’s Peroxyl can effective. READ MORE
What can be the cause of my bad breath?
GERD, or gastro-esophageal reflux disease can cause bad breath, but there are a number of other causes ranging from periodontal disease to volatile sulfur compounds on the tongue. A tongue scraper can be of benefit as well as a good oral hygiene regimen. Don’t forget to visit your dental professional to make sure your gums are healthy. Thanks for the question! READ MORE
How long is a crown supposed to last?
A crown should typically last 10 years or more. It sounds like your crown may just need to be recemented which can sometimes occur if the cement seal is broken. READ MORE
Can a small crack in my tooth heal on its own?
The crack will not heal on its own, but if it is fairly small, asymptomatic and just invokes a slight bit of enamel, sometimes these situations can be monitored without treatment. READ MORE
Why do my teeth keep breaking?
If a patient is breaking multiple teeth in a fairly short time frame, this can be a sign you are clenching or grinding your teeth at night and you may benefit from a biteguard to be worn at night. READ MORE
What is the best antibiotic for tooth infection?
If penicillin isn’t working, I often prescribe Clindamycin 300mg, three times a day for 10 days. This is a broad spectrum antibiotic and is very effective. READ MORE
Is fluoride toothpaste safe?
I definitely advise using an over the counter toothpaste that has fluoride in it. I always look for the ADA seal of approval. READ MORE
Should I get all of my wisdom teeth extracted in one appointment?
Yes, I would recommend having all four taken out at once, especially if you are under conscious sedation. READ MORE
What can I do with my broken molar?
I would advise to see a dentist as soon as possible. If the crack is extensive enough it could require a crown. It may also just require a filling, but either way, a dentist should be seen to have this problem addressed properly before it gets worse. READ MORE
Does apple cider vinegar remove plaque from teeth?
I would not advise using any kind of vinegar on enamel due to the corrosive nature. This could potentially dissolve tooth structure ( think of someone sucking on lemons that has severe enamel erosion). READ MORE
How do I know if I have an infection after tooth extraction?
Some pain is normal so soon after an extraction. If pain persists beyond 4-5 days or seems to be getting worse, I would go back to the dentist/oral surgeon to rule out a dry socket. This is a condition that can arise if there is a problem with the clotting of the extraction socket and can be treated fairly easily with an iodoform gauze packing and an antibiotic. READ MORE
How should I prepare for my root canal?
As long as you are not being sedated, there are no eating or drinking restrictions. I sometimes advise taking a pre surgery dose of ibuprofen to help with post op pain. You can take 400-600 milligrams one hour before your root canal. READ MORE
What is the best whitening toothpaste?
Colgate makes a whitening toothpaste called Optic White which is pretty good. I like Sensodyne’s TruWhite because it has less sensitivity than other whitening toothpastes. READ MORE
