An expert in arthroscopy and arthroplasty (joint replacement), his private practice in Paoli, Pennsylvania comprises 85% joint related surgeries of the shoulder, hip, and knee.

With over two decades of experience, he brings with him the most innovative and advanced techniques in both surgical and non-surgical care, as well as the classical techniques. He is the Founder and Director of the Arthroscopy Research Institute and the AJR Foundation, and is developing advanced innovative technologies for arthroscopic joint resurfacing.

As a prominent sports medicine specialist, Dr. Mansmann has been a US Ski Team Physician for 15 years. He is also a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College; a Professor of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Drexel University Adjunct Faculty; and an Orthopaedic Consultant for the Philadelphia 76ers Basketball Team.

Back in 1981, Dr. Mansmann obtained his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery as a combined program of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. His training was further coupled with a fellowship in adult reconstructive and arthritis surgery (total joint replacements), with the original developers of multiple joint replacements at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

With a desire to continually refine his skills and expertise, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

These include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International Cartilage Repair Society, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Chester County Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Conducting innovative research, Dr. Mansmann focuses upon the clinical need for a durable minimally invasive pre-arthroplasty solution to treat arthritis and joint cartilage damage. The flexible shape-memory ArthoPad implants are designed to resurface damaged cartilage surfaces, through arthroscopic surgery, eliminating the significant loss of bone that is unavoidable in traditional joint replacement surgeries. ArthoPad has revolutionary and transformative potential as a less invasive pre-arthroplasty clinical treatment option. The clinical application being end-stage arthritis or joint damage, before bone deformity, earlier in the disease process, thereby reducing the need for joint replacement surgery.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
