Leg pain?
With such limited information about the symptoms and the past Med history, most likely diagnosis is Trochanteric bursitis. READ MORE
How do help my limb stiffness?
Well, your question is very vague and you have provided me with very little history. To be able to make a diagnosis, I would need to know a lot more information. Your past medical history, the type of work you were doing, exercise habits, meds, Any prior joint problems….etc. But there is one thing you must realize: the human body was made for one purpose: movement. The joints in the human body require significant movement in order to produce the joint lubricant so that they can function normally. Think about when you wake up in the morning or sit in a car on a long trip; when you start to get out of bed or out of the car, every joint seems stiff, and as you start moving the stiffness is replaced with normal motion as the joints are lubricated. Joints need regular and frequent motion. READ MORE
Can shin splints cause scar tissue build up and how would you get rid of that scar tissue?
How long have you been running; what is your usual weekly mileage? Are you a heel striker or more mid-foot runner? What kind of shoes do you run in? You see, there are a lot of factors, but I am not convinced that you have real “shin splints.” It’s an inflammatory process brought on by too much pounding in a short amount of time. Lots of other factors too. There is no “scar tissue” - that’s a healing layer of fibrous tissue that follows a high-energy trauma. Need more info!! What kind of warm-up? How many miles per session? How long been running? Are you training for an event? How about post run stretching? Tried any ice packs after the run? Any anti inflammatory meds? Dr. Mudano READ MORE
I have right leg and flank pain?
You have provided me with very little history. The description of your pain is not helpful either. When did it start? What makes it recur? Where exactly is this pain, thigh or leg, near the knee, medial or lateral? What makes it worse? Anything make it better? Heating pad is not a good idea. If it’s an inflammatory condition, heat will only make it worse. Is there a change in the skin where the pain seems to be located? Any skin rash associated with this pain? Ice is almost always a benefit if applied for a minimum of 20 mins. Can’t really help you without knowing more information. READ MORE
I have shoulder/forearm pain?
When you fell 3 months ago did you break the fall with your outstretched hand or did you shoulder actually contact the ground first? Does the pain radiate from the shoulder to the elbow? Do u you ou have p as in st night if sleeping on your side? Have you seen a family doctor or an Orthopaedic surgeon? Have you tried ice packs, or Arnica gel ? Have u taken an oral anti-inflammatory medicine? Has anyone taken an ray of your shoulder? Dr. Mudano READ MORE
I have pain, swelling, and a rash on my feet and legs?
Because you have RA, most likely related to the overall disease Rheumatoid arthritis. What meds are you taking for the RA? Think you should see your rheumatologist. READ MORE
What causes back pain and numbness?
The most common cause of back pain in young people is attributed to basically 3 things: (1) poor sleep habits; (2) tight hamstrings; (3) dietary excesses/abnormalities. No matter what age, you gotta get minimum 7 hours uninterrupted sleep. It also helps to do those hamstring stretches right before bed (also after any significant time of exercise whether it be walking, jogging, cycling, gym, yoga, etc.). All athletes know that you DON'T stretch before a workout, you stretch afterwards! (Before any workout, you are supposed to warm up: brisk walk/run in place for 60 secs, jumping jacks, treadmill, etc., whatever it takes to get the body temperature up slightly.) There are very, very few people your age that have structural lumbar spine issues… scoliosis is the exception, as are injuries, but I doubt that you have any mechanical issues at all with your spine (vertebral bodies and the discs, etc.). How to treat a hematoma on my leg?
Moist heat compress (5-7 mins) followed by ice packs for 30 mins or more and compression wrapping after that, especially while up walking, etc. READ MORE
I have trigger finger?
You need to tell me where exactly the laceration was and how it was treated. But, the information you received from the Orthopedic physician is correct. Is this the surgeon who will be doing the surgery? After 2 tries with injections of steroid, the next form of treatment is surgery. It’s simple and practically without any post-op issues or complications, provided you follow your instructions. Pretty quick recovery time. READ MORE
What to do about my collarbone non union?
Clavicle fractures are one of the most common fractures in Orthopedics. They almost always heal uneventfully with simple closed treatments, meaning a clavicle strap, etc. If there is in fact a non-union, after this much time has passed from date of injury, unfortunately, another surgery will be necessary to stabilize the fracture and promote good bony healing. Go back to your Orthopedic surgeon and ask him what he can do to provide a solid union. Was the fracture a 2-part fracture, or were there more than two fracture fragments? READ MORE
How do you sleep after a knee replacement?
First of all, you're too young to be having a knee replacement. Has the surgeon told you what to expect as far as longevity with a prosthetic knee? There must be some special circumstances as to why you are having a TKR. Believe me, there are way more important issues than how to properly sleep after your TKR surgery! Like, how long will my artificial knee last? Can I get an infection in my new knee if I have a skin infection, or say a bad tooth that has to be removed because of an abscess, or what about getting a blood clot in a leg vein after the surgery? What is your BMI (wgt and height/obesity number)? What are your other medical conditions? Do you have unstable diabetes? Are you on any immunosuppresive drugs? Are you a smoker? These are all things that can disrupt a TKR surgery or lead to a bad outcome. Total Knee Replacement surgery is a last resort procedure. What sort of conservative treatment have you had? READ MORE
What’s the issue going on with my arm?
Need to know some more info, but more than likely , this is a simple rotator cuff tendonitis with associated bursitis; Does the Left shoulder hurt when you lift something overhead or try to rotate the upper arm away from your body as if pulling horizontally ? Can you lift both elbows out away from your torso and hold them at shoulder height and does this feel different than the Right shoulder. Could you resist downward pressure while holding both elbows exactly 90 deg from your torso ? If there is pain with this maneuver then you'v e got tendonitis and some bursitis under the shoulder bone. READ MORE
Does a dislocated elbow require surgery?
No it usually does not. Was the elbow reduced (put back in place) with only minimal anesthesia and how far out are you from the dislocation? Were there any fractures associated with the dislocation ? READ MORE
Is walking good for osteoporosis?
Absolutely, walking is good for osteoporosis; any activity that forces the body’s extremities to push against gravity will strengthen bone. READ MORE
Shoulder Injury?
Most shoulder problems are NOT rotator cuff tears; they are almost always inflammation of the tendon and the bursa, which is supposed to cushion the tendon against the bone (acromion). The X-ray can show if there are bony spurs that cause impingement on the two structures I mentioned above. If there is also scapulothoracic imbalance, this will cause the shoulder to have poor movement when throwing a punch. The PT people should be working on that end trying to get those upper back muscles that are intrinsically responsible for normal extension of the shoulder; and your orthopedic surgeon should be addressing the inflammation (rest, ice packs, short course of NSAID meds, or better still, a corticosteroid injection into the bursal space), not the joint space. READ MORE
Thigh pain?
Probably trochanteric bursitis. Go to an orthopedic office and see if they say try some anti inflammatory meds with ice packs, etc. Or, quick fix if you’ve had symptoms for a while, steroid injection. READ MORE
How long does knee bursitis take to heal?
All depends on what started it! Usually, using local modalities like moist heat followed by ice pack for minimum 20-30 minutes. Can also try using Arnica gel, which can be obtained at any drug store (OTC), or if you prefer to take an NSAID like Albee 2 tabs twice daily with food for 5-7 days. READ MORE
Dislocated knee cap?
You should see tour orthopedic surgeon. If this is the first time it has dislocated and you were able to reduce it by yourself, then no surgery is necessary for now. It will take a minimum of 6 weeks for the patellar ligaments to heal; a soft-hinged knee brace is sometimes used during the first 3-4 weeks following the dislocation. Lots of ice to quell the inflammation on a regular basis. Concentrate on building the quad muscle (front thigh muscle that goes through the patella and attaches to the “bony bump” in front and below the knee joint). READ MORE
Why does my hip still hurt/ache?
Ask your surgeon. Pain TV hiss AC long after a hip replacement makes me wonder what exactly your diagnosis was? READ MORE
What can I do about tendonitis?
What did your doctor recommend? What is tendinitis? Inflammation of the tendon (usually the ex Heath and not the actual tendon itself); have you ever heard of “RICE” treatment? -Rest -Ice -Compress -Elevate That’s usually a good place to start. Rest the extremity that has the tendinitis - that means don’t stress those muscles that are part of the tendon attachment. Ice the soft tissue by applying an ice bag directly to the skin (it’s safe and okay, but some people cannot tolerate ice directly on their skin); wrap the arm or leg or wherever the tendon is that’s inflamed with a small ace wrap to compress; neoprene compression braces can be bought in any drug store (also called compression sleeves). If there is a significant amount of swelling, you must elevate that extremity above the heart, especially if the swelling is so great it causes pain. READ MORE
