Sheila Kar, MD, FACC, has a private practice in Beverly Hills, California. This gap, prompted Dr. Kar to create a not for profit foundation named the Sheila Kar Health Foundation in 1997, designed to educate the public about good healthy choices to prevent heart disease. They have annual Valentine's lecture, inviting outstanding faculty to lecture, give out grants and scholarships to those who intend to pursue a career in the health care field, sponsor life-saving therapies to those in need, but are unable to afford them and donated life-saving equipment to under-served clinics or individuals. She is Assistant Professor at David Geffen School of Medicine, and is involved in teaching healthcare professionals.

How is congestive heart failure treated?
The treatment depends on the condition that is causing the congestive heart failure. Having said so, fluid restriction, salt restriction and medications such as beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor, angiotensive 11 receptor blockers, diuretics etc etc. In each of these categories of medications, there are several medicines. Your cardiologist will select what is right for you. Taking daily weights, being very mindful of your food composition and intake is important. Can anesthesia cause breathlessness?

After a bypass, how long will I have to follow diet restrictions?

Angioplasty is recommended when a patient has symptoms or the lesions are hemodynamically significant (usually greater than 80%). Medicines and lifestyle modification take time.
