Sheila Kar, MD, FACC, has a private practice in Beverly Hills, California. She is past Clinical Chief of Cardiology, is currently attending cardiologist at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute and Hypertension Center of Excellence at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Kar specializes in non-interventional cardiology, with special emphasis on preventive cardiology (preventing the first episode, or a recurrence or the complications after established heart disease), helping with modifying cardiac risk factors. She is very open to combination Western Medicine with complimentary medicine and healing naturally by improving life style. Heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide, yet 70% of heart disease can be ELIMINATED by managing key risk factors, and yet we are not doing enough. This gap, prompted Dr. Kar to create a not for profit foundation named the Sheila Kar Health Foundation in 1997, designed to educate the public about good healthy choices to prevent heart disease. They have annual Valentine's lecture, inviting outstanding faculty to lecture, give out grants and scholarships to those who intend to pursue a career in the health care field, sponsor life-saving therapies to those in need, but are unable to afford them and donated life-saving equipment to under-served clinics or individuals. She is Assistant Professor at David Geffen School of Medicine, and is involved in teaching healthcare professionals.

How is congestive heart failure treated?
The treatment depends on the condition that is causing the congestive heart failure. Having said so, fluid restriction, salt restriction and medications such as beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor, angiotensive 11 receptor blockers, diuretics etc etc. In each of these categories of medications, there are several medicines. Your cardiologist will select what is right for you. Taking daily weights, being very mindful of your food composition and intake is important. Daily exercise only as prescribed, helps in the long run. I hope this is helpful. READ MORE
