Dr. Schmieder and his team provide the finest skincare, including medical, surgical and cosmetic aspects of dermatology while incorporating cutting edge laser therapies. Dr. Schmieder and his team of providers at Park Avenue Dermatology, in addition to treating general dermatologic conditions like keratosis, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, and age-related skin conditions, also provide a wide array of up-to-date aesthetic procedures, including laser resurfacing, laser hair removal, skin tightening (Thermage®) for the face, arms, thighs, and abdomen, intense pulsed light, and procedures that greatly diminish the appearance of wrinkles, freckles, scars, stretch marks, and unsightly “spider” veins. A native of Rockville Center, New York, Dr. George Schmieder attended Lemoyne College in Syracuse, New York, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy. He was inducted in the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society in his senior year and was elected as president of the society. Afterward, Dr. Schmieder was commissioned into the U.S. Naval Reserves through the Health Promotion Scholarship Program where he would attend the Osteopathic Medical College of Philadelphia, graduating with an Osteopathic Medical Degree in June of 1984. Assigned to Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida, Lieutenant Schmieder was chosen for an internship in family practice. He graduated on June 30, 1985 and was awarded “Teacher of the Year.” He went on to receive numerous Navy awards and honors for his work as the General Medical Officer for the largest destroyer squadron in the Navy and also for his leadership of the Family Crisis Team for the members of the USS Starke after its attack. Awarded a fully funded Navy Out-Service Scholarship for specialty training in dermatology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Schmieder received the largest research grant ever awarded to a dermatology resident in his final year. He has authored more than nine publications on dermatology and skin care.
