An experienced urologic oncologist, Dr. Torrey Jr. is affiliated with Beaver Medical Group, seeing patients in Redlands, California. He specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of urologic malignancies using robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgical techniques with a special interest in managing kidney cancer, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer.
Founded in late 1945, Beaver Medical Group is today one of the largest multi-specialty medical groups in the Inland Empire with 17 facilities. It also operates three Urgent Care Centers and is affiliated with two local hospitals: Redlands Community Hospital and Banning’s San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Torrey Jr. completed his medical degree at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1971, followed by a residency in general surgery at Georgia Baptist Hospital in 1973, pathology training with the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in 1974, and a residency in urology at Washington Hospital Center in 1976. Finally, he completed a two-year fellowship in urologic oncology at the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in urology and urologic oncology through the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to insure the delivery of high quality, safe and ethical urologic care.
In addition to his clinical role, he has assisted in the development of specialty cancer clinics and support groups and participates in a multidisciplinary urologic oncology tumor board at Hoag; all of which have improved the delivery of management and treatment options for patients with urologic malignancies. He is also an active member of the American Urological Association.
As for his academic appointments, Dr. Torrey Jr. has served as an Assistant Professor at the Loma Linda University Medical School, and the University of California Riverside Medical School.
Urologic oncology is a medical specialty concerned with diagnosing and treating cancers of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. These organs include the bladder, kidneys, prostate, penis and testicles.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Torrey Jr. has been the recipient of the Inland Empire Magazine Best Doctors of the Year Award (2003, 2015), and Leading Physicians of the World Recognition (2013).
In his spare time, he enjoys tennis and mountain biking.
