  • What is the treatment suggested for treating dental plaque and soreness in the gums?

Very often, gum soreness and dental phobia go hand in hand. With a phobia, it is common not to get the maintenance you need and this often leads to discomfort. In most cases, a thorough dental cleaning would be the first step in bringing your gums back into health. If done correctly, this should not be a painful procedure. READ MORE

  • What is the possible cause of swelling and numbness on the right side of my tongue?

Any sort of numbness and/or swelling is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. There are many possible reasons for this and therefore it is important that you seek dental help ASAP. It is never a good idea to wait for something to get worse. READ MORE

  • How long does a dental filling last?

There are a number of factors dictating the longevity of a dental filling. Some of those factors include type and size of filling, home care habits, diet, and frequency of professional maintenance. Based mainly on these factors, fillings can last anywhere between less than a year to over 20 years. READ MORE

  • What are the best ways to get rid of tooth sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by a number of factors. It is always best to find and treat the cause rather than just treat the symptom (pain). It is possible that there is something going on that could get much worse. READ MORE

  • Are whitening toothpastes bad for the teeth?

Whitening toothpastes should be safe as long as they don't contain any abrasives. Any sort of abrasives should be avoided. READ MORE

  • What are the steps involved in maintaining good oral hygiene?

Floss, floss, floss... and get regular professional cleanings at least twice per year. READ MORE

  • Why are my gums swollen?

If this is a general problem all over your mouth, it is most likely related to periodontal issues. Any pain and/or swelling should always be checked by a dentist as these issues could get substantially worse to the point of infection and even tooth loss. READ MORE

  • What causes yellowing teeth?

Smoking can definitely cause yellowing of your teeth. In these cases, more frequent professional cleanings will be necessary. READ MORE

  • I am not very satisfied with my RCT. What should I do about it?

There are many reasons why a tooth may still be sensitive after a root canal treatment. The symptoms may be very mild to severe. Depending on the tooth, there may be a secondary canal which if not treated could cause pain. It can also be sensitive in the gum, which would be dependent on the periodontal condition and/or how the tooth was restored after the root canal was completed. If you are still uncomfortable, it would be best to have the tooth reevaluated. READ MORE

  • My mother lost all of her teeth. What can be done?

To replace all of ones teeth, the two options are full dentures or implants. Implants are much more comfortable and durable. Your mother would have to be evaluated for implants as general health, medications, and bone levels and density are critical to long term success. READ MORE

  • How long after my extraction stitches are removed can I drink or eat?

In most cases it should be OK to eat and drink "gently" once the numbness goes away after an extraction. Rinsing, however, should be avoided for the first 24 to 36 hours. After that you can gradually resume normal eating and drinking as any discomfort allows. READ MORE

  • Why do my oral ulcers keep coming back?

Recurring oral ulcers are most likely related to one or more viruses. In these cases, I would see a primary care doctor to check for anything that might be depleting or stressing your immune system. READ MORE

  • I feel pain and pressure on my gums. What could this be from?

Pain and pressure in your gums could be as simple as something stuck between your teeth or as serious as an infected nerve or fractured tooth. A thorough evaluation would be necessary to determine what the underlining cause is and then the proper treatment. READ MORE

  • My daughter chipped her front two teeth. What are our options?

Chipping of permanent front teeth in a child is traumatic not only to the child, but to the parents. In most cases, the best option is bond the tooth/teeth until the child is in their late teens or early twenties when a more permanent solution can be done, if necessary. READ MORE

  • Can a toothpaste help with tooth sensitivity?

Not the toothpaste itself, but the ingredients in the toothpaste such as fluoride can be very helpful in decreasing sensitivity. In the office, we do have other products which can be even more helpful. In severe cases, we can even laser the sensitive areas of the teeth, virtually eliminating the problem. READ MORE

  • Do I have to be numb?

Depending on the procedure and general sensitivity of your teeth, it may be possible to be treated without being numb. My suggestion would to perhaps try the procedure without being numb while treatment is being started gently and slowly. If you begin to start feeling sensitive then numbing may be necessary. Depending on the material used along with your eating habits (i.e., coffee, tea, smoking, etc.) the length of time a front filling can stay looking nice can vary.
