Sleep problems and Alzheimer's
Sleep disturbances are common for people with cognitive impairment and they are challenging. Physical activity is important in general and may help with sleep. I would also try melatonin at bedtime. Soothing music may be helpful. When simple things fail, we come to discussions of prescription medications. No medication is completely without side effects or risks, so discussions need to inform family members of these. Family involvement is very important in these decisions. Trazadone is often my first choice when medications are needed. Medications have to be tried cautiously and changes made if adverse effects occur. READ MORE
