How do you know if eye pain is serious?
Hello! If it feels scratchy and gets better in a day or 2, probably not serious, just a small scratch. But if you wear contact lenses, it's probably serious. Also, if it throbs or is tender and lasts more than a couple of days, it should be checked. The associated symptoms matter, close the good eye and check if your vision has changed, which is another concerning sign. Hope that helps! Yara Catoira-Boyle, MD READ MORE
Stye in my eye that I squeezed?
Hello! Styes are no fun and now they seem to have become more prevalent, we suspect due to the mask use. We do not recommend you squeeze them. Instead try a daily warm compress for 5 minutes. Once the style drains, it may become a scar...it is hard to comment without a picture to see exactly where the stye was...I recommend you make an appointment to see an ophthalmologist. Good luck! Why do I keep getting a stye?
The treatment for styes includes antibiotic ointment and warm compresses. If the inflammation and pain get better but you still have a lump, you may want the lump removed by an ophthalmologist. If they keep coming back, it's due to your oil glands being clogged, called blepharitis. You may need long-term oral antibiotics to treat that. READ MORE
