Get to know Urologist Dr. Brett F. Holt, who serves patients in Fairfax and Ashburn, Virginia.

Dr. Holt is a well-respected urologist with Inova Medical Group - Urology, seeing patients at the offices in Fairfax and Ashburn, Virginia. He is also affiliated with Inova hospitals, including Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

Inova Urology specialists strive to provide compassionate and contemporary urologic healthcare, and offer seamless access and care at all five Inova hospitals. The physicians are laparoscopic pioneers and currently specialize in the minimally invasive treatment of urologic malignancies, including prostate, kidney, bladder, adrenal, and testicular cancers. Each physician is involved in patient care, teaching, and research to further the knowledge and treatment of urologic diseases.

Particularly experienced in surgery for prostate cancer patients, Dr. Holt is well-versed in a wide range of surgical procedures, including nephrectomy, cystectomy, and pyeloplasty. He is also highly regarded for his knowledge in employing the da Vinci surgical system to perform laparoscopic prostatectomy, which is the surgical removal of all, or part, of the prostate gland. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, he is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care. 

Following the completion of his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2006, Dr. Holt went on to further his training. He completed his residencies in general surgery and urology at the George Washington University Medical Center in 2008 and 2012, respectively. 

In direct affiliation with his industry, he is a member of the American Urological Association, the Virginia Urological Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He attributes his success to his family and his personal desire to help patients.

Urology, also known as genitourinary surgery, is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs. Urologists specialize in diseases of the urinary tract and the male reproductive system. Patients may be referred to a urologist if their physician suspects they may need treatment for a condition relating to the bladder, prostate, urethra, ureters, kidneys, and adrenal glands. 

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Holt enjoys playing sports and spending time with his sons. His favorite professional publication is the Journal of Urology.
