Dr. Greenfield, Jr. is an exceptional orthopedic surgeon with extraordinary expertise in spinal surgery and non-surgical spinal care. He is currently a part of the team of professionals at South Texas Spinal Clinic, P.A.
The surgeons at South Texas Spinal Clinic have extensive experience in treating almost every musculoskeletal and orthopedic issue. They specialize in both medical and surgical management of back and neck disorders or injuries, herniated discs resulting in arm or leg pain, scoliosis, traumatic bone fractures, total joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, sports medicine injuries, and repair of damaged cartilage and ligaments (to name just a few). They use the latest state-of-the-art techniques to perform minimally invasive surgery, microendoscopic discectomy, interbody fusions, partial and total joint replacement, and arthroscopic sports medicine surgery of the knee and shoulder.
A 1978 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Greenfield, Jr. also graduated with his Master’s degree in Counseling from the said establishment. While at Johns Hopkins, he was a four-year letterman and an All-American Athlete in track and field.
He completed a rotating internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Dr. Greenfield then completed fellowships in spine and trauma surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and at the Kantonsspital St.Gallen in Switzerland. He served as chief of spine surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center and was team physician for the USA Modern Pentathlon Team.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
With 30 years of active and reserve service in the Army, Dr. Greenfield, Jr. served in Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the first Gulf War and in Iraq in the second Gulf War. He is also a past president of the Board of the American Academy of Pain Management.
Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
