  • Why a chiropractor for my daughter's constipation?

First, you did not state her age. There are many things neurologically that can affect chronic bowel issues. A chiropractor can evaluate if there is a spinal component related to this condition. Other things in addition would include diet, water intake, depending on age, if she's a pop drinker or, worse, diet drinks, allergies, etc. These are just some things that can affect chronic constipation. • I am having a lot of foot pain because of my weight. What should I do?

First, since you have a weight problem, have you checked your blood sugar? Just ruling out diabetic neuropathy. If this can be ruled out, then you should consider shoe orthotics and possible heel lift. Unfortunately, with weight issues (and no medical history or actual weight info) this is the simplest answer. I would need much more medical history to offer more detailed suggestions that are many: based on overall health profile, I would start with a full physical exam. If it is just a foot problem, chiropractic adjustments could also help. READ MORE

  • How does spinal manipulation work?

This is a tricky question as Chiropractors use the term adjustment whereas Osteopaths use the term manipulation. But to answer your question, It is the creation of mobility within any joint connection utilizing various forms of thrust usually at a minimal intensity releasing the fixation of subluxation of that joint. There are many different techniques within the profession that can be offered and the decision is based on the information based from a physical examination which may also include x-rays, MRI or CT scan. • Can you suggest a treatment for the pain in my calf muscles?

There a several reasons for this type of problem: 1) foot pronation and a need for orthotics 2) chronic shin splints, easily corrected by stripping along the tibialis anterior muscle or posterior. Use oil or massage cream and massage the sides of the calf foot to head direction along the bone. This will probably offer the most immediate relief, but problem one may be the greater issue. Many Chiropractors can offer shoe orthotics READ MORE

Films could determine if you had any pathological problems going on. There are congenital conditions that can also exist. The films would determine these also. READ MORE

Rib subluxation can be a very large problem among any age group. A lot depends on if she has osteoporosis. If so the shrinking of spine will cause changes on her rib cage. • How is a chiropractor different from a physical therapist?

Very different. Chiropractic deals with the nerves of the body in association to the spine. It also deals specifically to the bio-mechanics of the whole body in regard to motion. If a joint doesn't move or is fixated, all the exercise you can have will not help that joint. So for a quick explanation Chiropractic restores joint motion and its effect on the surrounding nerve tissue. PT deals with stretching and some rehab exercise in a generic definition. They can also do various adjunctive therapies such as ultrasound and electric stimulation which Chiropractors also do. This would be the one similarity they have. READ MORE

  • I have lipoma under my arms. Can a chiropractor help?

Lipomas can be genetic or familial (runs in the family). If concerned if they are lipomas or something else, it is best to be seen by either a dermatologist or a general surgeon. A chiropractor may be able to diagnose it, but sometimes they can mimic other issues. The fact that it can cause pain when bumped, I would recommend seeking a medical evaluation. READ MORE

  • I have undergone about 5 X-rays in the last 2 months for my spinal problem. Are there any risks?

You did not mention what areas of the body had the x-ray. The neck will need or use the lowest amount of radiation as compared to the low back which will typically need the most. If this was all the x-rays you have had regardless of region you should be fine. You should discuss this concern with your Chiropractor. Since he or she knows what type of equipment they use, should have a better of idea of the amount of exposure you may have received. READ MORE

  • Pain years after spinal fusion surgery

There are several questions to ask; 1) Where exactly is the pain? 2) Is it low back , mid back or hip region. 3) Does the pain occur in bed or anywhere you lie down? 4) What type of pain; dull, sharp, achy, radiating...? 5) What part of the back was fused? Possible answer with out knowing the facts are; 1) If it is only when lying in your bed, the mattress would likely be a major possibility. 2) If it is in the hip or low back region it could due to fixation of the hips and seeing a chiropractor could take care of that. 3) General treatment could include use of a CBD cream, Sombra cream, TENS unit. 4) Do some stretching exercising in a pool. My suggestion would be to see a Chiropractor in your area to get an initial evaluation to see if it is treatable or need a referral back to your surgeon. Bottom line you should be seen for an evaluation because there are many possible answers to your question. READ MORE
