Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Sanjeev Dewan, who serves patients in Ohio.

With over two decades of experience in eye care, Dr. Dewan specializes in cataract and refractive surgery, eyelid plastic surgery, and comprehensive eye care for children and adults. His strong educational background and reputable care for his patients has made him succeed in establishing a practice, Ohio Eye Alliance, that excels in providing the latest in advanced techniques.

With the help of a highly trained and dedicated professional staff, Dr. Dewan is committed to the needs and comforts of his patients. He strives to bring the best to his patients by dedicating his time and efforts in continuing to learn what is current in eye care, and applying the success of today’s research into his day-to-day practice. He believes in the motto: “Success is a Reflection of Character, Confidence, and Compassion”.

Active in refractive cataract surgery since 1991, Dr. Dewan has provided advanced cataract surgery techniques for patients in Northeastern Ohio and is skilled in the use of multifocal, accommodating, and toric intraocular lens for treatment of presbyopia (difficulty reading without glasses) and astigmatism, to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contacts to see. He has advanced skills in refractive surgery and makes available to his patients the options of LASIK and PRK to reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Introducing cosmetic facial laser and eyelid surgery to Ohio Eye Alliance, his skill with cosmetic lasers allows patients to undergo more precise, usually blood-free surgery, with less post-surgical downtime. He has expertise in using the carbon dioxide laser for blepharoplasty to treat excess skin on the upper lids and bags under the lower lids. Likewise, he has extensive experience in the treatment of facial wrinkles and acne scars, correction of eyelid malposition, and removal of skin growths. He is accomplished in the use of Botox and collagen fillers such as Juvederm for facial wrinkles.

Bringing a high level of expertise in treating a wide range of children’s eye disorders, Dr. Dewan is known for his compassionate and conscientious treatment of strabismus (eye misalignment), amblyopia (lazy eye), and tear duct obstruction. He holds faculty positions at Northeastern Ohio Medical University and Ohio State University, as well as serves on the active medical staff at Aultman Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Surgical Hospital at Southwoods, Surgery Alliance, and Alliance Community Hospital.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Dewan received his medical degree at McGill University Faculty of Medicine, one of the top universities in Canada. He was Chief Resident during his residency in ophthalmology and completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology. He trained with leaders in the field of refractive surgery in various locations, including Long Island, New York, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio.

Licensed to practice medicine in Ohio and California, he is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

To stay up to date in his field, Dr. Dewan holds membership status with several professional organizations, including the International Society of Refractive Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Serving in international medical missions, Dr. Dewan has donated his time and resources to teaching residents, medical staff, and surgeons, and to providing surgery for cataracts, eye disorders in children (such as strabismus), and eye plastic conditions.
